What was the worst movie ever? The most mindless, pointless, tasteless movie you've ever seen? Gigli? Battlefield Earth? Jack and Jill? My vote goes to I Am Sam. Grossly manipulative and loaded with cliches it features a catastrophic, pain-inducing, cruel performance by Sean Penn. I hope this doesn't sound too extreme but I think many of the principals behind I Am Sam should be executed for releasing this film upon the public.
Sometimes called the worst movie ever made: Plan 9 from Outer Space A ridiculous small budget movie - so absurd it's funny.
What is 300-300? The number of good movies Gerard Butler has made since 300. How about any movie that has Gerard Butler in it that is not 300? Anything with Ben Affleck in it. Dances with Wolves. My Big Fat Greek Waste of 87 Minutes of my Life.
The worst movie ever? Anything Hollywood or Bollywood after 2000. Hollywood switched over to 'date' movies with silly themes, zero originality, shallow personality development, disconnect with reality, a pathetic sense of humour and no sex appeal, or comitted to producing rotten remakes which disrespect the originals, or hitchpotch of 20 other flicks out there in circulation crammed into one. Bollywood movies all have this in common that they always carry close-ups of young actresses' faces in the state of utter shock and then glorify the army or show it in best colors possible. So apparently some Indian viewer couldn't take this over-saturation anymore as seen below. So all in all Hollywood and Bollywood due to their creativity or lack of have ushered in a golden age of parody. So again, two minuses make a plus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQqpw9MVrEY&feature=fvwrel
I must totally disagree. I actually think hollywood has done a better job recently than ever before, particularly in the case of remakes. The new Batman movies? Totally superior to the old cartoonish ones. The new Rambo? Way better and more realistic than any of the others. I look back at the crap from the 80's and 90's and say "How could anyone watch this cheesy ass crap?" Even comparing Planet of the Apes to Rise of the Planet of the Apes or the old and new Clash of the Titans. Movies are definitely way better now.
The two worst movies I ever suffered through were: * Mac And Me (absurd rip-off of ET The Extraterrestrial, with product placement for Coca Cola and McDonalds as the central feature) * Firebirds (absurd rip-off of Top Gun, with a horrendous script and an improbably plot as the central feature)
The worst movie I saw from beginning to end was Husbands. The worst movie I paid to see at a theater was Bats. The worst movie most of you are familiar with that I saw all of was the second Matrix movie. Both versions of The Day the World Ended were terrible. I gave up very early on the famous clunkers Heaven's Gate and Ishtar. I can't omit the frustration of trying to watch John Wayne play Genghis Khan and Denzel Washington an Italian. Don't forget Mel Gibson's attempt at Hamlet. The Worst Alfred Hitchcock movie was Suspicion. I had it on tape and accidentally recorded an hour-long program in the middle. When I rewatched it with the hour missing nothing in the story had changed.
Sure they are better, if you're into comic book heroes (X-men, Spiderman, Transformers consistently come on top), supernatural 'Haunted'-type suspense ('Below' etc.) and self-cenzorship where film studios out of greed, fear of lawsuit, and their own political correctness fever stifle creativity and instead follow stiff formulas which have sold at the box office before.
Why have movies declined? 1) Excessive attention is paid to the male teen demographic - a demographic not always associated with sophistication. 2) Foreign markets, which contain many non-English speakers, are increasingly important. Such markets to not reward clever dialogue. 3) Huge movie budgets force the movie-makers to become cautious. Hence the repeats. 4) Hollywood elites favor boring PC propaganda.
Why so many movies about post-apocalyptic dystopias set in bleak landscapes that feature attractive women in sexy costumes performing martial arts in slow motion? Except for the attractive women in sexy costumes, is it really all necessary?
Butler: Beowulf and Grendel Reign of Fire Lara Croft: Cradle of Life 300 and i don't by any means list these as worst. Frankly i don't mind just watching Butler in anything..... well. i mean i don't mind watching him in 300 in that interesting little spartan half tunic.
I nominate A Beautiful Mind as one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I nominate Russel Crowe as one of the worst actors in one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
I'll nominate "Natural Born Killers", being it's the only film that caused me to walk out of the theatre. The photographic tricks are nonstop and totally annoying, the one-note plot ("the media is obsessed with violence") gets old after it hammers you over the head the first time, all the acting is over-the-top, the plot is "what plot?" -- basically, it's Oliver Stone's narcissism at its worst.
When I was a kid, it was "First Family" starring Bob Newhart and Gilda Radner as the, well, first family. I think there was maybe two laughs in it. "Lord of War" starring Nic Cage. "My Boss's Daughter" with Tara Reid. My wife and I rented that and couldn't even watch past the first half-hour, it was that bad. We also couldn't finish "Memento" even though everyone was raving how brilliant it was. "The Shadow" with Alec Baldwin. First ten minutes were good, the rest was so corny it's cringe-worthy. I heard a remake is in the works, I hope so. The first Star Trek movie. Lord. Oh Lord. Superman III and IV. Batman and Robin.
Out Of Africa. I had to watch it with my late mother. I could not wait for it to end...and it lasted forever.
Not a buff but, of recent movies... Battleship was horrible. G-Force thank goodness the reel broke 15 minutes in. Gave us coupons to come back. I sent my wife. Spy Kids, need I say more?
