Yes indeed folks. It is almost that special time of the year. The time that we hang up the road and mountain bikes, strip off the lycra, clean the shotguns, load up on ammo, hit up Macks or Cabelas for some new toys, and head off to the swamp. Am I excited? Well, 15 days to go and my stuff is already in my garage, ready to be tossedin the truck and off to the nearest honey hole to see what I can do. Last year my total was 56, and all 56 were eaten by myself and my family. Some duck breast, and a whole lot of smoked duck sausage, and one memorable night of smoked duck ravioli. Yum-O as Rachel Ray says. This year I have added a jerk rig to the setup, hoping to get a little movement going and get those dekes looking like real ducks jumping around. Any other waterfowlers in the house?
Where I hunt,it's mainly a dry rice field,so we just get geese. But after a good rain, the field floods and the ducks just dive in there! Yeah,I love it too!
sorry my hunting is limited to what is underwater. A buddy took me hunting once and said I talked too much..................hard to believe huh?
Very different all over the US. In part of the state, we have the flooded rice fields. After the harvest, the pit blinds are dropped in and a foot of water is put in. Ducks everywhere. Where I hunt, in the SF bay area, it is in tidal marshes. Good hunting, but you are hunting in water anywhere from knee deep to waist deep all day long. This is what I hunt in. View attachment 15567 The picture in the OP is from 4 or 5 years ago. it is a field that ran next to a canal where the canal went over. No one knew that there were new ponds filled, and the ducks on the refuge were holing up their. Great hunting for a season. Unfortunately it has not flooded out since then.
Of course you don't understand. You're a vegetarian. Just imagine having to hunt that head of lettuce in the wild instead of buying it from the organic section of the supermarket, then maybe you'd understand.
You still didn't explain how you benefit from killing an animal yourself. You obviously don't have to personally kill it to survive so what other reason do you have?
Actually---I have never gone hunting and I'm trying to get my husband to lead us on a hunting adventure. He doesn't seem interested.
Its a sport. Just like Golfing is more then just hitting a ball towards a little hole.....hunting is more then just shooting your gun.
Your right when you golf you don't kill an animal. When you hunt for sport you do more than shoot a gun you kill something. What is the benefit you get from killing an animal?

You don't need to hunt to get food. Are you really missing my point here? If you don't need to do it to servive then why are you doing it?
You don't need to hunt for food, but it's one way of getting it. The better question is, why not? It's a way of getting food. Some people like the sporting aspect of it. Not sure what you're trying to argue, here.
I wouldn't mind bein' Me a duck hunter.I mean not like what John Kerry pulled during his 2004 campaign going to Ohio with brand new duck hunter outfit.I heard tell he got a geese er two.Couldn't even bother to carry them Geese. Had to have some helper lug around a couple Duck. I have Duck bric-a-brac at home. So I'm already have trained with undertanding Ducks.
I just want people to admit they like to kill animals for their personal enjoyment. There really is no other reason to do it in modern society.
TFM admitted he ate everything that he shot. Do you require a Mexican laborer to kill or pick everything that you eat?, WatcherOfTheGate?
I never doubted he ate what he shot. I'm a vegan so I don't need to kill an animal for food or enjoyment. I just find killing animals for enjoyment to be odd.
Nothing like free food. And check out the anarchist glorifying "modern society". In your anarchist utopia probably more people would be killing their food.
What does being an anarchist have to do with modern society? Your argument has already started off pretty weak. What does killing animals to survive have to do with killing animals for personal enjoyment? I don't think you thought your post through.
While I like the argument of respect for all organisms, I don’t like the argument that one should not enjoy life. Hunting, picking and cooking are part of life. One of the privileges of living in a complex society is the ability to have the choice of being a vegetarian. That choice isn’t really available to Eskimos. For that matter, the vegetarian concept of “life” seems to involve mobility. A lettuce, arugula or spinach plant might not have the objective of being eaten as it grows. Only fruit-bearing plants should be consumed from a purist’s perspective (i.e. plants that deliberately produce a fruit so that a mobile mammal will eat it and disperse the seed). Of course, if you use modern-day plumbing, the plant was just bamboozled again. I’m surprised that plants haven’t gone on an “Atlas Shrugged” style strike. Perhaps their communication skills are inadequate.
Alot of regulationsand restrictions on hunting. Under anarchy, repeal restrictions, hunting increases. But i forgot, a leftist hack pretending to be some rebel really just a sissy vagitarian bigot towards carnivores.
You act as if it is so easy. It is (*)(*)(*)(*) difficult to put yourself in a position to kill those animals. They aren't just dumb animals blundering around. They have superior senses and the ability to avoid a predating human just as well as a predating cougar. Given man's needs for comfort and cleanliness with strong smelling soaps, etc.. You pretend as if there is no skill involved. That we just go out and point and click, dead animal. Oh, by the way your holier than thou attitude towards Veganism is unfounded. There is nothing immoral about hunting or feeling a thrill at a successful kill, and your sick attempts to turn it into a moral issue is unfair, gross and needs to be kept inside your own head. It is perfectly morally acceptable to enjoy killing of animals for sport. We enjoy it because it is instictual to do so, and you have no right to deny us our instincts just because you somehow managed to supress yours through false ideology. Whether your dumb ass likes it or not, some humans instinctually enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the kill and you don't have any right whatsoever to question it as a moral issue because it isn't a moral issue.
