In the United States we have the highest per capita spending per student in the world. Our teacher salaries are through the roof. Teacher are very well paid for part time workers who only work 9 months out of the year with two vacations, Christmas and Easter per year. They only work part-time 6 hours a day and if you were to figure it out on a per hour basis, they would be the highest paid part-time workers in the world. And they are doing a lousy job. Why are we paying them so much? Our students are the worst in the industrialized world. We're like 38th. Our teachers are failures. We should cut teacher pay drastically. And we need to fire the bad teachers. Same for higher education. These lousy liberals professors indoctrinate children, they only work a few hours a week, and they get tenure and get paid hundreds of thousands. It's stupidity. No wonder college costs so much. Pay teacher and professors by the hour. That would be the best thing they could do. Give teachers $20 per hour. Professors $25.00 per hour. That should be all they get. Teachers in California public schools make almost $70,000 or more. It is ridiculous!
The real problem is the increased number of administrators/office personnel. They get paid a lot more than teachers, and they don't even produce anything, except for interfering with teachers. Professors don't just work a few hours a week. They only teach a few hours a week--in general, they work at least two hours preparing for a one hour lecture. In a modern research university, a professor has three different jobs--teaching, research and service. $70k in California is middle class. Somebody making $40k a year in Alabama lives in a much nicer house than somebody making $70k a year in California.
Yeah, I mean why pay a decent wage to the people DIRECTLY responsible for your children's education? Makes no sense to incentivize them whatsoever. funny, but the US also pays the highest per capita healthcare costs with rather uneven outcomes as well. How about cutting doctors and nurses salaries. If cutting wages is good enough for education, it should be good enough for healthcare too.
How about we cut the administrative and government regulations and departments that eat up more than 50% of the money spent on education and healthcare? The thing that is killing education and healthcare is the government run plantation that the democrats want to enslave us all on. We have to end the government monopolies on education and healthcare, not hand over our freedom and our lives to bureaucrats who will make life and death decisions for us. But we also need to fire the terrible teachers and cut salaries for these part-time jobs where salaries have been driven up as a result of the corrupt unions bribing democrats to give them pay raises so the teachers can pay more in dues and the unions can give more bribes to democrat politicians so the politicians can give the teachers raises so that... What should serve as an incentive is if you don't do your job well you get fired. Right now, even pedophile teachers can't be let go because of union protections.
Oh? Are you suggesting that the government not mandate minimum education standards for the nation? Got any clue about what education actually means to the health and wealth of the nation and its future? government run plantation? Prone to rhetoric and devoid of logic. Okay. Thanks for playing.
Teaching kindergartners about gays or cross dressing is what you get with big liberal education. Condoms for junior high. The state of education is a mess. It needs to be localized.
Yes, localized education so those with drool buckets attached can pass em down to their kids. Great plan.
... and surgeons $27.00 an hour? Teachers and professors do not work 6 hours a day. That's when they're on stage. It's equivalent to when the surgeon is cutting or the singer is entertaining. Performance in the classroom or lecture hall requires planning, preparation, evaluation and continuous learning. Hours that are not recognized or paid for. The expertise, knowledge, self management, and development skills required to produce and provide a good educational program is much more than what we can get people to deliver with current salaries. We pay K-12 teachers poorly, we get poor results. The problems in higher education are different, but salaries there aren't great either.
I say close all public schools and let the parents home school their children. That way you don't have to worry about school taxes. Sure solves your pay issue.
Until that generation grows up and the tribes that result have no similar experiences, shared values, related knowledge, or even common language. Public education sucks in this country, but the solution isn't we all go our separate ways. If we do that, we may as well divide the country into smaller nations now. And those nations can forget about being evenly remotely competitive or relevant in the world.
I say do not cut there pay "JON STEWART: Teachers Don't Work As Hard As Wall Street...At Ruining The World Economy" http://www.businessinsider.com/jon-stewart-teachers-wall-street-taxpayers-bailout-video-2011-3
Surgeons have a service to sell. Let the free market determine their salary. Teachers and professors on the other hand work for the government. The people should determine their salaries. Most people don't know how much the teachers are getting paid. It is double what people are making in the private sector. And it is part-time, temporary work for less than 9 months a year. 6 hours a day, that's it. If they need hours of preparation everyday to do their jobs then maybe that is a good indication they are not good at their jobs.
Teachers are making salaries that are roughly 5/6 of what the average salary of people with similar degrees. The teachers I know work 7 1/2 contract hour days at school, then they work at least an hour a day (7 days a week) outside of school--grading tests, preparing lessons, etc. They work 190 days a year. A full time conventional job with federal holidays and 2 weeks of vacation time is 240 days a year. 190/240 is 80% of a full time job.
In most states, teachers/administrators salaries are a matter of public record. Most private sector salaries are lower then their public sector counterparts because they do not collectively bargain, instead relying on the good charity of the school to pay them what they feel they are worth, which in many cases is less then what they should be paid. If teachers are expected to grade papers at home, make phone calls from their homes to parents of children having problems in the classroom, stay after school hours to work on plays, plan field trips and attend mandatory conferences at and away from school, then in my opinion they are being cheated out of money. On the other hand if they don't report to work until the exact time they should be there, take their lunch break without doing any school related work and leave right on time at the end of the school time, then they are not being cheated. If as you maintain, they are not good at their jobs, then it is the fault of the administrators who hired them in the first place; that is a good indication that they are not doing their jobs.
You know someone who can deliver a different, effective 6 hour performance, five times a week, for nine months without any preparationfeel free to offer them $20-25 an hour. The people or other employers should not be able to determine their salaries, the people should be able to determine what it will offer them as a salary. And teachers and professors, many of whom are independent contractors or employed by private education companies, should be able to decline the offer. With what the people are already offering, schools are compromising standards and employing people who cannot do the job. The system is failing. Because those who can and will do this work, are not being found or not willing to continue doing it for more than a few years.
That's when they're not sexually abusing the children I would guess. Given how crappy the results are, I am thinking the teachers are way over paid. Probably wouldn't make half what people of with similar degrees because they are stupid people. Being a teacher doesn't make you smart, neither does having a degree. The universities and colleges are churning out some of the most stupid college graduates ever.
Colleges don't make people smart. If the people graduating from college are not smart enough for your liking there are two options: send smarter people to college or graduate less of them.
Just shows you ran out of arguments, when you pull out the pedophile bull(*)(*)(*)(*). No good arguments and you start to demonize....
There is such a problem with teachers molesting the children it makes Catholic Priests look like Boy Scout leaders.
Looks to me that liberals really aren't interested in making college more affordable to young people. If they were, they would get behind cutting pay for teachers and professors. The teachers and professors shouldn't be so greedy. We should increase taxes on teachers and professors to help pay for higher education. They need to pay their fair share, those greedy bastards.
No arguments=demonizing. - - - Updated - - - They pay the same taxes as anybody else with the same income.
