The protester was the one arrested. He is facing felony assault charges, but where are the assault charges against the mayor? Yes, the pie thrower was guilty of simple assault by throwing a pie, but once the pie was thrown the simple assault was over. The mayor went after the guy and instead of letting his security detail handle it, he beat him "bloody pulp". Legally he is entitled to defend himself, but what the mayor did went beyond a "reasonable defense", changing it into a offensive action and creating a new assault. I know many folks seem to think that if someone assaults you you're have a license to do what ever you want to them, however you are only entitled to "reasonable defense" (defensive actions) according to the law. Hopefully, the mayor will be led out of the city offices in handcuff anytime soon.

Go Ahead, give him a jury trial, with TV coverage.

Just be sure the "victim" and the video are handy for all to see.

    Instant re-election.

That would depend if it was one on one, or did Johnson's security team get involved in the ass whoopin'.

Did the police shoot the black mayor who was in the process of beating up the white guy armed only with a pie?

you can't assault a public official like that, so yes, he got arrested as he should

I would need to see a video to know if the mayer did wrong.... if it was one after the other, he is ok, if he stopped and the guy was backing away and started again, then we have problems

according to many on the right he would of been justified to unload his entire gun into the man, but not punch him?

After thinking about this for a little bit, I'm going to say the guy deserved what he got because I subscribe to the theory that if you jump over a fence and into someone's yard then you are responsible for what their dog does to you. This pie thrower underestimated the size of the dog on the other side of the fence. He brought it upon himself.

Slightly black eye and he assaulted the mayor, so, I'd call it square.

Throwing a pie at someone as a form of any kind of aggression is something children do and should end by the time one turns 18 and becomes an adult. No grown man should be throwing pies at people to get a point across.

He got his ass whooped for it, it's his fault alone and maybe he will think twice about coming at a man with kids games.

Hippy bastard was probably geeked out on bath salts or something.

the government is allowed to respond with disproportionate force, it happened in pearl harbor for example.

it shouldn't be allowed but had the civilian done that to a law enforcement government official instead of a mayor, it would have been more tragic.

Exactly who is saying this? "Many on the right" is not a very specific charge, is it.

No one needs a video. The statements provide enough. As far as I'm concerned the hippy wanna have 15 minutes of fame got what he wanted and then some. He just as easily could have had a lethal weapon versus a pie.

Heck even this polarized forum pretty much agrees that he got his come uppance eh?

That black eye will be gone in a week or so and the cut might leave a tiny scar that'll get him laid with hippy heroin addicts for years.

Looks like a law suit coming up. Punching a guy 10 times can't be construed as self defense.

Guy got what he deserved. If you're going to take a swing at another man...and you choose to arm yourself with a pie...well enjoy getting the beating you asked for.

Huh? Who thinks a pie constitutes a reasonable fear of life and limb? Is there an allergen in the pie... Like education?
