Armed man in a Florida restaurant yelled "get out of my country ."

My philosophy is that "hate" crimes are a farse in that they are crimes of motivation not deed. If he actually assaulted them physically there is a crime for that. If he killed them there is a crime for that.

I am not excusing what he did just saying that we should temper our punishment due to his situation of losing a child.

 

OMG, I should have read all the posts before continuing with my defense and sympathy for this guy about him "losing a son" in combat.

Sadder still that he lied about his son being a Marine. Granted his son served in Iraq in the Army that is honorable but he is not a Marinevas his "father" said.

 

I was wondering how soon someone was going to muddle this up with an unwarranted attack on the " media".
The link I posted in the OP was from CBS and it said stun gun and if fact I noted that in one of my posts.

 

I am embarrassed that I did not dig deeper and find that this guy had lied about his son being killed.

I list a son, not under these circumstances so I am embarrassed to say yet my " liberal" side temporarily came out and I let sympathy cloud my judgement. Lol

 

I have skin is this game. I also have been told by people that I do not belong in this country. I know that I posted the story of when I was kindergarten age how a Bible carrying woman from a "Baptist" church ( house turned into a church) came out of this "church" and yelled at me fir being an immigrant. It was after WWII I was born in a refugee camp after the war and we came here under the Displacec Persons Resettlement Act. DP's. The Bible woman yelled at me that ' you DP's come here and steal our jobs, take our rents, and you love our Yankee dollar but you hate Yankees)'. She added that 'you DO's need to go back to where you are from'. I drove my two wheeler red bike home real quickly and asked my mom what a DP was and if my dad stole jobs.

My mom said that the woman was a Baptist and that Baptists hate us and not to go ridding near their "church" anymore.

I to this day do not trust Baptists.....

So I understand to a degree what Mo and Zay felt.

He crossed a line. A suspended sentence could be justified, but to be honest if you're threatening someone with a knife I want you to do 6 months jail.

What the guy did was obviously wrong and can’t be ignored or it will get worse. Considering his history and mental state, I think he needs professional psychological help or substance abuse help. I’d like to see minimal charges and him getting help.

When I wrote my comment I had not read that the son was actually alive and not killed as was indicated later in the thread. Given this fact I don't see any jury as being sympathetic. This dude should and likely will be convicted. If he ends up in jail that would be a good thing IMHO.

 

I’m talking about in the courts. If an angry man approaches you with a knife and threatens you, it’s on and deadly force is on the table.

I also just read that the son is not dead. That changes my level of sympathy greatly. I defer to the courts and don’t care enough to argue with their decision, whatever it is.

That is a tough issue. Our 2nd rights are quarantined by the Federal Constitution but our rights of carry and or various restrictions on possession and use are by the states. I would hate to take rights away from state but I also would like Federal level guidelines regarding taking away or restricting possession due to mental illness or domestic violence.
Yet I fear that the states will take the initiative to do what is right without a threat or push by the Feds.

 

I did use knicknames for the two gentlemen of apparent MiddleEastern background. Of course I assign knicknames to most people especially The Lying King as Trumpeizdas have growled at me for.
