LOL. You learn a lot? Like what? What you ask isn't a norm? Why don't you ask a college friend about what info you seek?
Most of the people that I have met who speak with urban accents are black. I have met a few white punk types who speak in the same manner. Those who do not speak well are some of the easiest people to compete against. It is rare for one's comprehension of the language to much exceed their ability to speak the language. I do not employ those who do not speak well for a number of reasons. First of all, it displays laziness. Next, it is unprofessional. It doesn't present well to the customers. And last, but not least, it inhibits their ability to learn, receive instruction, convey information and build professional relationships.
Yes. But, IMO, after the fact, America was not getting out from under. It was a facade. For I also thought, America had moved passed the racial point. I was wrong.
A supposed social worker, liked a hardcore hater of black people? Yes, his history of posts are wiped away. IMO, legal reasons are why
You would need to ask those who insist on sounding different to their neighbours based purely on race. They're the most prominent and problematic example of isolationism. Meantime, if you have a front door on your house, you know why we have borders.
Is he a social worker? I hadn't realised that. Interesting! But yeah, he's entitled to his views on race. I don't share them, and I don't like racism, but dehumanising someone for views I disagree with would make me the ******. If he's not committing crimes, taking welfare, taking drugs, or hurting women, children or animals - then he's decent enough to engage with.
So has single motherhood in the black community increased, or decreased, since the turn of this century? How about black crime? How about black welfare dependence?
Ditto. It also demonstrates a complete disregard for job/career prospects (and ANYONE can improve their grammar, diction, and elocution - for free, at any time of their life). What employer wants that kind of person on the payroll?
Caught me discussing Americans? I do it all the time. I have American friends (who I'm in regular contact with ... ie, weekly), and I can read. That's good enough for me.
How does a foreigner speak for Americans? You people are humans, aren't you? Pretty sure that America is not a completely alien concept to citizens of other English speaking, Eurocentric, multicultural nations.
So isolating one's self by way of a door , or a wall, or a border, or laws, or any number of other ways racist and otherwise makes perfect sense, but isolating one's self by way of slang is the horrible and intentionally racist thing? Turns out, jazz musicians were the racists back in the day with their hip lingo and their isolating of themselves from various establishments. Seems really odd that of all the ways people and groups and countries "isolate themselves", you focus on Ebonics as the bad thing. You say you don't like racism, but the things you say seem very racist to me. It's obviously the typical right wing game....a sort of code to say racist things, separating whatever group from the pack negatively, and then blaming that group as the ones who are the racists. It's a transparent game and it's very tired.
Seriously? Anyone who texts a lot ( especially college age) knows its just abbreviated communication used in daily life. Why would it be difficult...[/QUOTE]
I can't tell the difference between an American born Chinese person and a white person. I can't tell the difference between an American born Indian and a white person. If they were all raised in the same location, they will all have the same accent. Go to the UK, and it's even more difficult to discern any difference. UK born black people of African heritage sound exactly the same as their white neighbours. THESE are not racist people, since they are not trying to separate themselves from their neighbours. They are not trying to avoid 'sounding white'. Or 'sounding Chinese'. Or 'sounding Pakistani'. They are simply speaking the same way everyone else does, who was born in that place. Because that's what happens naturally .. when you actually mix with your neighbours. It's a thing called COLOURBLINDNESS. You should look into it. In the meantime .. do you think I'm racist? I'm not trying to trap you to report you, I'm genuinely curious. Do you think I have a problem with people of colour?
I don't know that "colorblindness" truly exists, especially on this forum. To me, it depends on where people are coming from.... a negative and hateful place...or a positive and loving place. Why do you suppose some people (of any particular "group") are not "mixing with their neighbors"? You don't seem very colorblind (or positive and loving).
1) Yes, it does. But I well understand why many on the SJW side of things don't want to believe it. 2) You think wanting more colourblindness comes from hate? See 1), above. 3) If you won't mix with your neighbours because of the colour of their skin, then you're a racist. Obviously. 4) So you think perhaps I have some unacknowledged 'white man racism'? And that it comes from an innate awfulness?
SJW started this thread? I didn't say that. Not necessarily. A racist is a person who hates. Feeling uncomfortable or unwanted or avoiding people who hate you does not make you a racist. You didn't answer my question. Why do you think some people don't "mix"? You think it's solely because they are racist? Why do you suppose that is? Obviously not everyone is. You chastise "SWJ"s, I assume you chastise alt righters and all the obvious racists on this forum. You seem to be coming at this topic from a weird place. I don't know what that means. Your attitude is strange. You seem to be lambasting a certain group as well as SJWs. What do you suggest as solutions? Mocking how certain people are able to text? Is that a solution? Do you have anything positive to say in regard to this subject?
1) So, a white person who is 'uncomfortable' around black people is not racist then? Even when he deliberately avoids ever interacting with black people, or having anything to do with them? 2) Yes, I think people don't mix with others based purely on skin colour are racists. Avoiding people because of their behaviour, not so much. But let's be realistic, if you have 100 white neighbours - even in the worst case scenario there's no possible way that even half of them will be racists. 3) I 'chastise' all racists. The SJW kind (the 21stC KKK), and the alt-right kind. Though I'll be honest and say that from where I sit ... the worst expression is from the SJW, because it's stealth. 4) I've made no comments at all regarding text messages. My interest is purely in why some groups of people DELIBERATELY try to avoid 'sounding white' (or whatever racial profile they dislike). That is not good for social cohesion and social harmony. That is not colourblindness. And it's not my 'solution' to find. It's on each of us not to be that person. It's on each of us to be colourblind.
