yes, unix was one a step above, no one disagrees with that when I went to school we still learned on mainframes now cloud computing is making a come back, new name, same idea you will no longer own your software in the future, you will have a service you pay a fee for kinda like ebooks, movies and music, if the company goes bk, your books, ect... go poof, so the service model makes more sense if that is the case
I wanted one for work, but our meter inyerface program requires windows. I understand there is a compatibility mode or emulator, but how compatible is it really? We often work in wet conditions and we dont need a lot of processor power, so i think a chromebook would be great.
Why not look for a surplus Panasonic Toughbook? There are tons of them out there, military surplus and available at a good price. I used one for a great many years, and they are still the choice of anybody that needs to use a computer in tough locations. Like military and law enforcement.
I like how small and light the chromebook is. Easier to travel with. Toughbooks are bulky. Also I've looked around, and the ones I've found in the same price range as chromebook were too old to even run win10. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place...
