Any further instances of insults and flamebaiting wiill result in an immediate thread ban and warnings with points may be issued as if all formal warnings and cautions have already been issued. i recently watched a movie that featured two youngish and still immature main characters. The girl had become Pregnant via her boy friend.... she was uncertain about the relationship, uncertain that she was ready to be a mom, uncertain that she would have the resources to raise a child. For these reasons she almost automatically scheduled an abortion. The plot continued through various twists and turns. Ultimately the boy friend said he loved her, he wanted to marry her, and raise the baby. And in this context, they wound up in a gyn office wistfully looking at an ultra sound of the beating heart....and gazing lovingly into each others eyes.... and we understood that there would be a happy ending Imo, this scenario illustrates the difficulty of the problem. Here wad a girl who intended to casually get an abortion.... and then her attitude changed to seeing her pregnancy as a beloved share life. The question is.... is either attitude correct in a way that Falsifies the other attitude? Certainly, when you see living parents watching that beating heart the scene pulls at your heart.... you share their joy at this new life. Otoh, it is equally true that when that same girl was pregnant and grossly unprepared for motherhood.... an abortion seemed a sensible, though regrettable option. Now for my opinion It seems to me that we are genetically programed to:find babies to be cute. This puppy response is what causes us to protect and nourish our often annoying, and fundamentally useless babies. . Yes, the promise of life is genetically programed into us to think puppies are cute and should receive special protection Otoh, if that parent(s) cannot care for the baby(fetus). Are we really protecting life? Imo, our genetic programing causes a puppy love response that is heartwarming, but misguided if that puppy is going to wind up being euthanized at animal control
It is up to the woman...period! If she chooses to look at “a beating heart” that is her choice. If she chooses an abortion because she know she is not responsible enough to be a mother for 18 years that is her choice
I don't like to worry about things unnecessarily. Keep it simple stupid (K.I.S.S.); if you want one, get it. If you don't want one, don't get it.
ALL good solid common sense reasons to not bring a kid into the world poor and possibly with one parent who no longer can attend school or even get a job that pays enough to pay for day care... ...and just as "casually" decides everything is perfect and rosy because right now her boyfriend loves her ( and audiences want a positive happy ending, ""they lived happily ever after""" ( MAYBE NOT)). Children are not puppies and people aren't animals....common sense should prevail when a possible HUMAN is involved. Puppies don't harm a woman's body or take 18 years to raise.
Really need to follow the woman for another 5 years to see how the decision impacted her life and if she ended up being a good mother or not.
Yes, it is all to easy to live the golden halcyon glow of puppy love. And even more absurd when the uninvolved wax nostalgic about the sanctity of life.... while never sticking around to see, or take responsibly for the life that they have insisted upon
I get the feeling most pro-choicers would prefer not to reflect on the nature of abortion for too long.
The person who is going to be burdened with a long obligation is the last person who should be making that decision.
The person who is going to be burdened with a long obligation is the ONLY person who should be making that decision.
UH WHAT !!!!! How long have I , and other Pro-Choicers, been in here defending the rights of women against those who want them taken away....HOW LONG? LONGER THAN YOU HAVE BEEN HERE. I bet anything you can't explain why Pro-CHOICE people would be hesitant about thinking about abortion ?????????????????????? It's a legal medical procedure …..
S So you want the woman, who faces the dozens of complications, including the possibility of death, NOT to have a say in that process? Holy ****. And conservatives claim they want government to stay out of our lives ...
A person who is going to have to suffer through a burden will naturally have biases in one direction and not make a fair and impartial decision
Why should whether someone was a good mother make a difference? There are people who plan their pregnancies and truly want their babies that turn out to be bad parents.
A person or an organization that is some distance from the situation is more likely to make an unbiased decision.
