‘Stumbling block for peace’: UN General Assembly calls on Israel to withdraw from Syria’s Golan Heights The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution demanding that Israel vacate the Golan Heights – Syrian territory it captured in 1967 and has occupied since – arguing its presence in the disputed region is an obstacle to peace and a violation of international LAW! Passed in a 91-65 vote with 9 abstentions on Tuesday, the resolution called on Israel to abandon the Golan after over 50 years of occupation, insisting that nations may not acquire territory by conquest, a core principle of international law, demanding that “Israel withdraw from all the occupied Syrian Golan.” .... During its war with Egypt in 1967, Israel captured Sinai and Gaza, annexed the West Bank from Jordan, seized the Golan Heights from Syria, and occupied East Jerusalem, = tripling the country’s size in a matter of days. Israel only gave back Sinai so far. Only months ago President Trump recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan, reversing longstanding American policy and contradicting a number of previous UN resolutions condemning Israel’s presence in the territory. In another more recent about-face, Washington also rubber-stamped Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, which have also been the subject of past UN measures. Naturally, the US and Israel voted against the UN resolution. A clear indication they are in bed with each other!! Read all here: https://www.rt.com/news/474959-un-resolution-golan-heights/ ---- Unfortunately, it will be a safe bet that nothing will come of it... like all the decades before. Does anybody have an idea how to make Israel respect the UN resolutions without igniting a WW?? Since when is it the US's business to sanction land theft??
So Israel annexed the West Bank from Jordan ? But the local Arabs name that area "Palestine". Jordan wants it back ? No. Jordan is Palestine - Yes.
Technically, Israel and Syria are still in a state of war. Syria has never formally recognized the right of Israel to exist. It's interesting under the circumstances that the U.N. wants Israel to give back the Golan, but there is no reciprocal expectation put on Syria - like a peace treaty and formal recognition of Israel. Typical U.N. shenanigans.
Whether Syria formally agrees to Israel's existence or not, shouldn't matter for Israel to give back the land it took from Syria. One has nothing to do with the other. The Golan Heights belong to Syria! Why do you, Mr. Bullock, feel that Syria has to first fulfill certain conditions before it can hope to get its property back? And, do you seriously believe Israel would oblige after Syria said to Israel, "you are allowed to exist and take the land and properties from the Palestinians. We would also like to have peace with you, so, please, dictate your conditions to us and we will look at it." Can you see how unrealistic and kind of schoolyard-bullish that is? a) It is not for Syria to decide who gets the land of the Palestinians. b) In a peace agreement with Syria Israel would put in unacceptable conditions, as... 1. no friends with Iran, Russia or others! 2. no army and weapons nor air force 3. reparation payments for having to give up the Golans 4. payments for relocating the settlers already established there 5. allowing 4/5 of the oil and other resources located in the Golan soil to go to Israel 6. substantial payment for the established water resources 7. signing over other desirable areas to Israel in exchange for the Golan 8. sovereignty of airspace over Syria for Israel! Wonderful! Almost as good as the Versailles Treaty for Germany a hundred years ago! Take note Mr. Bullock: The UN's decision for Israel to return the Golan Heights to Syria are not shenanigans but a wasted exercise, doomed in futility! No one at the UN, after knowing the Israeli mindset for 70 years, expects Israel to comply to this latest resolution!
Seriously? If one state can choose not to agree to the existence of other state, then the other state can do that trick too. Why would Israel be the only side compelled to agree to the existence of Syria? No agreement to the existence of Syria, no state to give the Golan back to. Problem solved. I love it how every so-called pro-Palestinian out there conveniently forgets that the Golan Heights have been part of Palestine for millennia, until the British decided to give them to the French. Why don't pro-Palestinians ask that the entirety of the Golan Heights be given back to the Palestinians?
The two countries are in a state of war and I would not expect a return of the Golan as long as that state of war exists. Israel negotiated peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan. It seems to me that if peace treaties can be negotiated with Egypt and Jordan, that a peace treaty can be negotiated with Syria as well, if the Syrians are open to that. A peace treaty is the necessary first step, in my opinion.
Haha... you got me there!! Sure, tit for tat. Can't argue with that! Yes, good idea. Why doesn't Israel do that right away? Why don't all sorts of countries ask for their original territory back? For instance, Germany could and should ask back the lands that were given to Poland, to France, to Denmark, Austria etc. whenever Germany lost a war. And the so called Jews in so called Israel should go back to their original Khazaria and give Palestine back to the Palestinians, who, btw. are more real Semites than the present-day Jews occupying Palestine. The “Jews” of America, Europe, and Israel are descendants not of Father Abraham but of King Bulan and the people of ancient Khazaria. Dr. Eran Elhaik, geneticist researcher at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, found that today’s “Jews” originated from Khazaria and not Israel. They are not the seed of Abraham. Read all about it here: https://educate-yourself.org/cn/texemarrskhazarianjews08mar13.shtml
Big fat red herring swimming around a straw man. You mean, like Russia that didn't take Crimea back? Oh, wait... I guess Germany remembers only too well what happened the last time it tried to reclaim some territories. Eran Elhaik made a number of fatal mistakes in his research, No serious scholar in the field agrees with him. Jews couldn't care less about seed. We are a nation, regardless of any genetic makeup. I wouldn't click on a link to Texe Marrs if my life depended on it. He's a sick obsessed hater.
Could you show his mistakes? Who and where are the serious scholars who disagreed with him? Benjamin Freedman already in 1961 told the world that the Jews were really Khazars. Freedman was, and Elhaik is, a modern day Jew. Why don't you trust them? Oh yes, they care!! Israel forbids marriage with an Arab. Israel does not take in refugees. They do marry Germans, though!! That is questionable, unless you claim the USA already as your nation! Otherwise, most "Jews" live outside of Israel. He is merely posting what one of your own people has figured out... “There are no blood or family connections among the Jews,” said Dr. Elhaik in an interview with Haaretz, Israel’s daily newspaper. “The various groups of Jews in the world today do not share a common genetic origin. Their genome is largely Khazar.” ~ ~ ~ Looking back 100 years to the Russian Revolution, one can see very clearly that those Communist Jews were in fact the descendants of the Khazars... brutal and ruthless. Also later during and after WWII. Solzhenitsyn describes their manner in his book about the Gulag Archipelago. Since the mid-forties it is the Palestinians turn to experience their brutal rule.
@Jazz I'm not sure there's a point in continuing this conversation. I sincerely don't think you're interested to know the truth about Jews and Israel. Please let me know if my assessment is correct.
If your truth is different from my truth, then I am very much interested to continue the conversation, because there can only be one truth, can't it?
Just know that I don't accept any hateful sources with extreme views and one sided agenda - on either side, I must add. No Texe Marrs, no Lehava, no pro or anti Zionism fundamentalists. Alexander Beiden: https://forward.com/opinion/382967/ashkenazi-jews-are-not-khazars-heres-the-proof/ Pavel Flegontov - with links to several scholarly articles in peer reviewed publications: http://www1.osu.cz/~flegontov/?p=111 A criticism of the research method co-authored and used by Eran Elhaik: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/biosciences/dubious-commercial-claims The fabled "Khazar genome" is itself a hoax, since no proven Khazar DNA had ever been found. They were probably a Turkic people. Eran Elhaik just assumed that some populations living in northern Turkey today must be descendants of Khazars, an unproved hypothesis. When we learn that the John Hopkins University, where Elhaik works, is heavily funded by some of Israel's worst enemies, things are starting to clear up bit by bit... Seriously? Pfftt. Bollocks. Israel doesn't forbid interfaith and inter-ethnic marriages. Lucy Aharish, the Muslim news anchor for an Israeli TV channel, married the Jewish actor Tzachi Halevi. I know of other couples. Israel has a very high number of asylum seekers and illegal migrants - Muslims and Christians - compared to its own population. Sadly, Israel's governments have been extremely reluctant to accord refugee status to asylum seekers. Most of them fled horrors I don't even want to imagine. At least they get free medical care and are supported by several organizations. Eritrean refugees hold placards during a demonstration in support of a recent U.N. report that accused Eritrean leaders of committing crimes against humanity, outside the E.U. offices in Ramat Gan, Israel (photo credit: AMIR COHEN/REUTERS) Here's a recent report on this issue: https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/World-Refugee-Day-Israels-contested-refugee-population-593116 Many Turks live in Germany, outside Turkey. Does that make Turks not a nation? Do the more than 50 Chinatowns in US cities somehow erase the nationhood of the Chinese? Wrong. Irrelevant, of course, to the issue of Jewish nationhood, but still wrong. Khazars were not brutal and ruthless. In fact, they were incredibly tolerant for those times, ruling over a multi-ethnic multicultural kingdom where different religions and different cultures co-existed peacefully. The quote is so full of logical fallacies, it literally chokes. We have unproven premises, hasty generalizations, leading sentences, appeal to authority. Yay. There's no way to answer such drivel without an extensive debunking of every logical fallacy, which is too time consuming for me to do.
Yes, Mama, I hear you! So, you reject Solzhenitsyn as well? And Eran Elhaik is only assuming that Khazars existed? What about Benjamin Freedman who has written a nice letter to Dr. Goldstein about the Khazars? What do you have against him? For instance he writes... "Maybe you can explain to me, my dear Dr. Goldstein, the reason why and just how the origin and the history of the Khazars and Khazar Kingdom was so well concealed from the world for so many centuries? " I wonder if Hitler had already made that connection? He must have, because he wanted to send them all back to Russia after he had won the war!!! Do you, Miss Pisa, know why the history of the Khazars has been kept hidden away? This article might help: https://www.palestinow.com/the-truth-about-khazars-the-self-styled-jews-are-not-semitic/ ---- After Russia's conversion to Orthodoxy, the clergy rallied that great nation to throw off the Khazar and Mongol yokes: A crushing blow was dealt to the Khazar Empire by Svyatoslav, Grand Duke of Kiev. The Khazars were forced out of their base in the Caucasus and most of them migrated to Eastern Europe. That alone counts for the presence of "Jews" in Eastern Europe and Germany. It's now easy to see why the vengeful Khazars a.k.a. "Jews" were behind the Russian Revolution and Communism. http://www.reformation.org/khazaria.html ----- It is a difficult topic and for the time being I want to concentrate on the upcoming holidays and my family. May you, Miss Pisa, be blessed with peace and harmony now and in the coming year. Perhaps 2020 will bring us some enlightening and a better understanding of it all!
It should be noted that the land was taken in a war that Syria declared on Israel. The article seemed to be trying to skate around that fact.
Oh, is that an unwritten law? Then Russia should have kept East-Germany. At least the Americans followed that rule and are still occupying Germany since 1945. Germany should be more grateful towards the Russians for their generosity.
Russia would've kept East Germany if Roosevelt and Churchill hadn't convinced Stalin to sign an agreement otherwise earlier in the war. And its true that Soviet Russia actually held up its end more than we did. Though I wouldn't say Germany should be 'greatful.' The treatment of Germans, Nazi and civilian alike, by the Russians immediately following Germany's surrender, was every bit as horrendous as the treatment of Russians, both military and civilian, by the Nazis (mostly SS) during the war. Brutality and barbarism traded tit for tat.
Golan is tiny but traditional Jewish lands Jews have already shown they will give up 3/4 of the West Bank which was the cradle of ancient Israel
Why does the OP assume the uN has any power? The power the UN holds is the US. US says jump UN just asks how high?
