Why are the COVID-19 spikes in Florida and Texas getting attention but not California?

Just about anywhere except countries that won't let Americans in because we are a health risk to them.

Mexico is thinking about building a wall to keep out Americans who are seeking to escape the incompetent baboon in the White House.... And make us pay for it!

There should be. There are. You can fly to New York from Florida, but then you have to quarantine for 15 days. Some airlines keep the middle seat empty, and force passengers to wear masks. Other just put profits before human life.

This is the problem when you don't have any leadership whatsoever from the federal government.

January can't come soon enough for this country to survive.

 

Exactly, but isn't that what regulation is for? So that human life comes before profits? If you're telling me that it has been left completely up to the airlines to decide what safety measures are taken, then I'd be absolutely astounded.

If you're asking if I spend my days comparing and contrasting news stories from different news channels to see which one is more fake the answer is no. I realize it's a competition for most people on forums like this but not for me. I don't really care if one does it a little more than the other. Even more bothersome, to me anyway, is these days people on BOTH sides just automatically say "FAKE NEWS" whenever a source they don't like is sited. That is f'ing irritating

 

That is exactly what regulation is for. But you're talking about a nation in which the group currently in power claims that any restriction, even if it's meant to save lives, is "fascism". Of course they don't know what the word means. It just sounds like something "nasty" to them, so they through it around. The only Trump supporters who do understand what the word means are the ones with the swastika tattoos

BTW, on my previous post I meant to say that you are quarantined if you fly from Florida to New York (I mistakenly wrote it the other way around). New York has a rational person in charge. Florida has just another Trump lap-dog.

 

Whoever, the republicans are watching, it is working. A study conducted in 2012 found republicans better informed on current events than either democrats or independents.

 

Andrew Cuomo has been doing a great job after he realized that he was on his own and should not expect any sort of help... not even in the form of trustworthy information, from the Federal government. It's been difficult for all of us to realize that the government of the United States, in the middle of the worst health crisis in a century, is dedicated almost full time to re-electing Trump instead of to saving lives.

 

The governors have always had the authority over their own state. It was Cuomo who wanted to go on with the Chinese celebrations after Trump had shut down travel from China. It was Cuomo who said the virus was not a problem. It was Cuomo who put Covid-19 patients in nursing homes.

 

Beach closings in Florida only occur in the cities where there is a rational mayor. Those of us who have a Trump lapdog for mayor are screwed. I am expecting all beaches to close after the July 4 weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

And restrictions on bars are a good thing, but a very small step. There is a lukewarm encouragement to wear masks in public places from the governor that invariably ends in what boils down to "but it's up to you". DeSantis is a moron!

Which is a different argument than what was being discussed. What you bring up has more to do with demographics than party.
As Pew itself notes, "on average, Republicans are older and more affluent than either Democrats or independents," and those demographics tend to test better. Partisanship aside, though, it's discouraging that barely half of respondents knew FDR was a Democrat and Abraham Lincoln a Republican.

 

However, it tends to discount the argument that republicans are misinformed because they watch Fox News. Personally, I don't care how they get their news as long as they are well informed and that certainly appears to be the case.

Then why else would Fox News be a problem? If they aren't misinforming anyone, why the big deal about Fox News?

You just proved my point. You are arguing about a stance I don't hold. That shows how much you're not understanding what has been said. Therefore trying to help you understand is a fruitless effort.

 

That statement does not prove anything for the simple reason, that statement could be applied to an almost unlimited number of issues. It is not specific enough to prove anything.
