Stealing millions of votes in urban centers DOES NOT equal fair representation of the USA. The Founders knew what they were doing when they dreamed up tjhe electoral college.
The PEACEFUL BLM protests in Blue states have ALL been with masks and social distancing. It was only when the racist white supremacists and the cops became VIOLENT that the social distancing could no longer be maintained. Needless to say I have no expectations that you would be able to see YOUR disconnect given your gross MISREPRESENTATION of them in the first place.
That is DISINGENUOUS! SCOTUS justices are APPOINTED by whomever sits in the Oval office and the EC enables RED states to OVERRIDE the WILL of the MAJORITY of We the People when it comes to CHOOSING who should be sitting in the Oval office. ERGO MINORITY red states have the POWER to govern the MAJORITY Blue states. FACTS matter.
The RACIST Southerners were already stripping black Americans of their political voice by ENSLAVING them and then those same racist Southerners CHOSE to strip THEMSELVES of their political voice by ILLEGALLY seceding from the Union. But duly noted that you ONLY care about the political voices of the racist Southerners and NOT about the Black Americans who were ENSLAVED.
The Only Black Lives Matter protests clearly do not practice social distancing nor do they often wear masks as evidenced by these random photos I found. You may wish to convince yourself otherwise and that is your right. And if you wish to encourage a nationwide temper tantrum and defund the police be my guest. It’s irresponsible and dangerous and I’m glad that I’m not in the US right now.
You totally missed my point so let’s try it again. The north was not investing in infrastructure in the south but heavily in infrastructure in the North and the south was paying taxes for no real benefit. Taxation without representation as it were. There was a firm tradition in both the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia and Kentucky resolutions that when government becomes destructive to the people it is the obligation of people to dissolve it. The US civil war was never about slavery but about state’s right but Lincoln changed the narrative with the Emancipation Proclamation which did not feel a single slave and the states of Delaware and Kentucky continued slavery throughout the war. Lincoln did not end this. I don’t think you have a very good grasp of US history. That being said, the point is that it is dangerous to say that smaller populations can be easily written off without consequence
One which implements a Job Guarantee. Unemployment is the ultimate discrimination that neoliberal societies practice against individuals ...a discrimination which for historical reasons affects blacks proportionally to a greater extent than whites. http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/mmt-overcoming-the-political-divide.569365/
Yeh well... it WAS about the economics of slavery....and as for states' rights, if you are going to have a functional federation, states rights have to be subordinate to the national SC. Now...what about Trump insisting states CANNOT enforce masks? Obviously the US SC needs to look at that, because the pandemic doesn't respect state borders. Dangerous? At the global level, your conservative doctrine of absolute national sovereignty (expressed via the veto in the UNSC) itself is the ultimate danger to the survival of the species, in this nuclear age. eg, what happens when China's economy is twice the size of the US?
The pandemic created the current situation, but the fact remains, neoliberalism is the barrier to a full employment economy. And guess what: during this pandemic, the government can support the entire economy in lock-down for as long as required, without taxing or borrowing the money from anyone. Link explaining how already supplied. (And professor Stephanie Kelton's new book :The Debt and Deficit Myth is now available).
Slavery was not outlawed in two states in the Union so it was not about Slavery and even Lincoln said that if he save the Union without freeing a single slave he would do that. Yep I oppose a mask rule that mandates they be worn. As I said it is a placebo anyway. BLM protestors are largely not wearing them and ignore social distancing in large numbers and I don’t think the virus passes over people due to the rightness of a cause. Yes China will become the largest influence in the world soon. Then you will have to deal with them restricting your free speech. Does that sound like a better world to you.
I already said it was about economics. Did you miss it? Guess what, other people (including some state governors(!) have different opinions to yours and (in this case), Trump's. Who is correct? While the covid-19 health issue is open to question, the BLM protests are based on REAL discrimination that still exists in our time eg measured by higher rates of black unemployment cf whites. Largest economy, not necessarily influence. In any case, the choice is settlement of disputes in the UNSC, or ........ A world with full employment, without war, poverty and blind ideology... sure does.
I’m not going to argue with you forever so I will end with this. You seem to feel if there is a just reason for a protest then it’s ok to ignore social distancing or even wear masks but it should be mandatory for everyone else??? Actually I applaud BLM for helping to spread the virus. It gets this nonsense over with faster. And no, one cannot go into lockdown for years. Rudimentary understanding of economics should make that self evident. But I will leave you to your dream world and wish you the best.
Lock-downs enforced by government because they did not know how deadly this highly contagious virus would be...and many people still think we should be in lock-down. But I can see you are going to try to defend the indefensible eg soaring inequality over the last 4 decades of neoliberalism, with CEO wages increasing from 30 times to 300 times median wages, real unemployment even before the pandemic hit c.10% (U6 + those given up looking for work) ie far above the 3.7% sham neoliberal figure in 2019. (You are considered employed if you worked for an hour or more in the previous fortnight, an absurd reckoning).
Smart move, because I will expose your inadequate world view for what it is (ie basically instinctively self-interested, at the expense of community. You need some reading comprehension lessons. Go back and re-read what I said. Maybe...I don't know enough about the virus, but what you and I think about the virus is beside the point, which is: employment discrimination against blacks is a present and evil reality (with black unemployment rates double that of whites even in the best of times). Production and delivery of food to supermarkets can last for a very long time....just sayin'. Your understanding of economics is a sparse as your understanding of the human condition (with its instinctive self-interest mentioned above). Like I said, smart move on your part....and as for your assertion of a "dream world", I accept that's the limit of your debating capacity.
Kindly REFRAIN from PROJECTING your own deficiencies onto others. No CREDIBLE historian supports your FALLACIOUS version of the history of our nation.
Wow lots of caps. You apparently think making words bigger makes them more true. No credible historian would say that the US civil war was primarily about slavery as two Union states continued the practice throughout and even after the civil war ended. The emancipation proclamation was intended to give a veneer of morality to the North and more importantly to insure that the Confederacy did not receive recognition by any European states who had only ended slavery a short time before. Brilliant politician Lincoln was although morally lacking. Now I can no longer be your history tutor as I have other things to do. You are also becoming tedious so I will simply wish you the best.
This is false. You are spreading misinformation, either willingly or unwittingly (and frankly, I can't decide which motive is worse)
