A physicist talking about how new tech may finally grow our knowledge about black holes and space/time. Cool:
Subatomic particles seem to exist outside of the arrow of time and in a very real sense we are all ultimately composed of subatomic particles. I wonder if this is important somehow.
Our senses are so limited, I sometimes wonder if there are things immediately around us that we are not aware of. I keep thinking of tsunamis and all the human tragedy yet not one animal carcass has ever been found, at least not one that had the capacity to leave the area.
Birds know exactly when it is time to migrate. Nobody has to tell them. I wasn't aware that animals knew to escape tsunamis. But it so it doesn't really surprise me.
@fmw I had two dogs when I was a kid that acted skittish all day long before a small earthquake later that afternoon. I suspect they have very sensitive feet. I understand that not one animal carcass has been found after tsunamis unless they were indoors and couldn’t escape. I don’t know how they know.
I think humans are almost entirely dependent on their neocortex and intelligence is clearly the most important attribute, it does not serve us when nature is the enemy. Nature is too crafty and way to fast for us to react. But the primal sense is still in us so some of us still know what to do. But not many.
Nevertheless, non human animals appear to have a sense we don't have and an important one for survival.
You are aware of that....but doesn't that thought suggest to you that "critical reasoning" may not be all it's cracked up to be? Perhaps it may even be a liability in some cases??
Yeah it has proven to be a very successful evolutionary adaptation though. But at the expense of common sense. My dad had an extremely high IQ but told me that intelligence is overrated and he would much rather be happy.
Your pa sounds like a very wise man. Reminds of this quote.... "All your pain comes from a futile search for something you want.... insisting where it must be found. What if it is not there? Do you prefer that you be right....or happy?"
LOL More wooden nickels from science! yum! Nothing can exist outside time, time is nothing more than a measuring stick, space is purely abstract contains no matter, no substance.
My wife my daughters. They run to me cause they know I’m their dad. That feels real. The certainty of mathematical science and very little else.
Supposedly dogs have a more developed (relatively speaking) pineal gland than humans do. The pineal gland is often attributed as being the '3rd eye' in eastern philosophies and speculated to have EM sensory functions, though little if any scientific study has been done on it. Structurally, it has properties that resemble an antenna. It can apparently become 'calcified' by prolongued exposure to heavy metals such as flourides and bromides, and 'decalcified' with bio-available iodine supplements.
They get killed in their millions, 'cos they didn't invent walls and castles and stuff. Plus we're killing off species every day. Guess who's top of the food chain?
