I can't believe that they are doing this to the British people. They're taking away their very identity - I mean come on, what's wrong with singing Britannia rules the waves and taking pride in one's past glory. As far as "Land of Hope and Glory", well, it certainly has been for a lot of people who aren't British, or they wouldn't be there now would they?. Destroying the family, eliminating religion, as well as traditional values and morals, is all part of Soros' and the ideologues new world order. Soviet Union anyone? "...Earlier it was reported that British patriotic songs such as “Land of Hope and Glory” and “Rule Britannia” could be dropped from the setlist of the Last Night of the Proms amid Black Lives Matter protests and anti-colonial sentiment. The scandal over whether such popular patriotic songs as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory should be scrapped from the setlist of Last Night of the Proms in three weeks' time spiraled further, as the centuries-old anthems were pronounced 'racist propaganda’ in a debate on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Monday. The BBC is reportedly considering dropping the songs, which have traditionally wrapped up the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, West London, from the concert slated for 12 September..." Look at the videos, and the pride and the fun the people are having. How can anyone take that away from them? So much for freedom and democracy.
Such is ultimately what comes to pass when a nation chooses to heed the call of special interest groups as if they were legitimate and carried weight. More than likely this move is being contemplated in an effort to avoid rioting and looting that would be on part with that in the united states, if group does not have its demands catered to. The nation knows it would never survive an outbreak of such violence, where law enforcement is already unarmed and thus unable to respond should widespread arson be utilized.
I think every nation is able to respond to an insurrection, that is if they want to and there is no outside interference. Let's not forget Britain sent armed forces to N. Ireland and quite a few places in this world, so why not their own country? The problem is the corporate owned media, because whoever owns them, control people's minds. Not that the British owned BBC is any different. I believe that everyone should be able to retain their own heritage and traditions, and no one should be imposing their own standards and beliefs on others - whether its militant Islam, militant liberalism, militant communism, militant nationalism or anything else that might pop up. I find it sad that the British people who pulled out of the EU to retain their sovereignty and self identity, is now having it taken away from them by whoever is behind the protests. I think the payroll is George Soros' Open Society Foundation.

The UK is well on it’s way to becoming a nation of mosques and puddles and little else. No nation should be allowed to mire in self loathing of its past for too long. This is what happens.
The British have been leaving Britain for years... there are droves of them near where I live and before Covid you'd run into a fresh arrival on a regular basis. Most leave because of migration numbers completely changing the country but today you can add to that the recession... or more likely depression, the level of infiltration the extreme left has in every area of decision making... not sure Britain will be Britain for much longer. I struggle to find sympathy for them though since the British have interfered and devastated African politics for decades under this guise of .... we care about black people. Overthrowing stable governments then again funding militants to stir more unrest effectively destabilising young democracies until they are failed states. Guess their increasing arrival of illegal migrants from Africa is poetic justice, for destroying their home...
It's all about identity in the UK now everywhere and all the time. Who and what one, someone, everyone is: male, female, different, nameable, unspeakable, monochrome, black, white, yellow, colorless, colorful, old, young, ageless, post-processed, domestic, native but coming from there, bi- or post - or neo-national, third-generation, but occasionally living far away, ex-Rand Indian, bio-English and so on and almost everything can be combined. Common natures, it is said by a poet, pay with what they do, noble ones with what they are. Today everyone wants to be noble, even if solvency, as with the nobility, is often not that far off. Because the mere being inactive sometimes lives heavily on showing off. Take the British. When is someone British, that is to say: really British and not just English, Welsh, Scottish, even foreigners and not to mention other lower or higher island identities? A conceivable answer has always been the loud collective singing at the end of the “Last Night of the Proms” when sea songs and hymns are played: “Land of Hope and Glory”, “Jerusalem”, “Rule, Britannia”. Especially when singing along with the latter, foreigners themselves may become British for a moment, the roaring sea rule ("rule the waves"), war wins ("more dreadful from each foreign stroke") and trading cities ("thy cities shall with commerce shine") Celebrate - lots of things that either no longer exist, that would be a mixed blessing for everyone or that (export surpluses!) at least have a strange religious pathos. You can sing about them all the more noisily, because identity always has something of an unrestrained nonsense that thrives on volume. The main thing is that as many people as possible sing along. Only ... is all of this still the actual reality in UK today or is it just the longing for the good old days, when the UK was still the world power as it is today the USA ... despite Brexit and a Boris Johnson, who had seen all of this threatened by the evil EU.
Oh my God. Does this mean this is not the irretrievable end of Britain? That's a relief. Good thing organizers have just prevented Britain from complete collapse and from disappearing from the face of the earth forever. Who knew 'Night of the Proms' could be of such vital significance.
Yes we managed to turn back the leftest hordes just at the entrance to the Royal Albert Hall, twas a close thing! We shall fight them in the concert halls........................fight them on the airwaves.....................................! Rule Britannia Britannia rules the waves......................................even though we have more Admirals now than the Royal Navy has ships!
Oh no, how terrible that the drunken students who attend the Last Night of The Proms will not be able to shout out random words to the songs of which they only know the first verse to for one year during a pandemic.
We sure are! When I was a Uni student I tried to rally up some friends to go to The Last Night of The Proms as it looked great fun but discovered that to get a ticket to it you had to buy tickets for some of the boring days and the total cost was really expensive. The total interest from my friends was zero after being told of the price!
Regarding just who it is who owns and controls the media and therefore the public mind, do not forget the message of the German journalist Udo Ulfkotte. He died at a young age for revealing too much truth about who it is that controls the European media.
Britain has had its 'crafty' nose in too many countries, and always had an indifference towards human lives - even the lives of their own people as was shown in WWI and the needless slaughter of trench warfare. But their influence on the world did bring about some civility and scholarship. If someone speaks English, and/or reads English writings, then they have absorbed and adapted much of their perception and reasoning. As for their colonies, I recall when the African ones were given their freedom after WWII, that the only ones able to maintain a government were the former British colonies. If they colonized the world, it was because they were a seafaring nation. That's what they did in contrast to land powers that occupied and enslaved population. With colonies came trade and the intermingling of ideas. As an example, had Athens not colonized and brought the knowledge of the then civilized world back to Greece, we wouldn't have much today. And then had the Italian city states not colonized the Greek world there would have been no Renaissance - so let's not knock colonizing. Of course the British and every nation in the world should recognize their short comings and their past misdeeds, but Britain was great, and they had a greater influence on the world than any other modern nation. Nobody has the right to take that pride away from them.
When Udo revealed what he knew, it was such a radical change in his thinking, that I felt he had to have became a Christian - otherwise why the change? I was right he did. He also said he had heart problems and wouldn't live long anyway, so it didn't matter what they did to him. Thank you Udo. As for the CIA, they support USAID as does Soros - as well as some other NGO's. They're on the same page. I assume these policies came into our government during the Clinton administration - probably from Victoria Nuland. The Clintons were also the ones that gave large corporations the potential to buy up the medias and control our minds. It was also under the Clinton administration, that we first went against international law and bombed Serbia illegally and under false pretenses. Oddly enough, Bill bragged about it as being a successful war since Americans weren't killed only Serbs. It was this that made Putin realize what we were and what we had become, so he started an arms build up. It was also under Clinton that GNO's were allowed, and Federal grants were given to colleges and private schools with classes and clubs that normalized and propagated homosexuality. It seems that every change for the worse in the world, had to do with the Clinton's - or at least that's how I see it.
All the more reasons they should be allowed to glorify what they once were. It's gone, what are people afraid of? Poor Britannia! It no more rules the waves. They've fallen hard and have become the PC's latest slaves - Jeannette
Colonialism in the long run did a lot more good than bad for the areas colonized. It certainly jump started their way to modernization. Change always has growing pains attached, of course, but overall the world benefited through colonization. The British Empire did great things for the world in the grand scheme of things.
people will kill eachother anyway. It is human nature. When great wealth and resources are accumulated by a single nation, when the basic needs of a nation are more than met, that nation is much more able to push the boundaries of culture, science, technology, industry, etc than a nation that is just barely scratching by. These technologies and other advanced will then spread to other parts of the world, including the colonies. Of course, humans being humans, greed and suffering will likely occur. But in the long run, I think the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of colonialism. And yes, certainly the rise of the Information Age, which includes the cell phone, has brought incredible benefits to all of humanity, and yes, it was definitely worth it in the long run. Tribal wars, disease, etc, would likely kill at least that many people anyways, since we would not be nearly as advanced as we are.
I was born in Kent and have lived in London all my life. Patriotism in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is ridiculous. To celebrate the enslavement and oppressions of millions caused by peoples emerging from these islands quite frankly makes me want to retch, and the faux display of nationalism at the last night of the Promenade Concerts by those who happily celebrate the evils of this tawdry country is a sickening sight. I believe there are few degrees of separation between nationalism, one manifestation seen at the Albert Hall, but also reflected worldwide, especially the never ending displays in North America a country founded on theft and murder, few degrees of separation between that kind of nationalism and 'National Socialism' which was the creed of Hitler. Religion, especially as manifested in organised 'Christian' groups has acted as an enabler of oppression through the ages, and should not go unremarked. 'Thou shalt not kill' ends with a full stop, not a get out clause that says Aboriginal Americans or Africans are fair game. Christian hypocrisy has been writ large over western history and exists in current affairs too. Some of the comments above characterising the land that provided the accident of my birth and domicile are so divorced from the lived reality in this place as to be laughable. Rank ignorance is not confined to these shores. I care little what those morons sing at the Albert Hall, but there is some comfort to be drawn from the realisation that somebody somewhere is considering the moral implications of such a plastic display of the nastiness of patriotism.
