This man didn't need this PPP loan?!! He takes in millions from the flock?!! This money could have saved hundreds of small mom and pop businesses?!![IMG]

Televangelist Joel Osteen's megachurch in Houston received a $4.4 million Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan

The loan received by Osteen's Lakewood Church was the first time federal lawmakers provided direct financial assistance for a house of worship, the Houston Chronicle reported.

As part of the federal CARES Act that gave coverage to employers to pay for employee wages and other operational costs and needs during the coronavirus pandemic, Lakewood Church received the third-highest loan in the Houston area, according to the Houston Business Journal, citing federal data.

The Hill reached out to Lakewood but did not immediately receive a response.
Lakewood spokesman Donald Iloff told the Business Journal the PPP check went to 368 full- and part-time employees.

He added that services suspended at the church between March 15 and Oct. 18 impacted the church's ability to "collect substantial donations," which prompted Lakewood to apply for the loan.

You can't get a ppp loan if you own a nice car? Or is this about Jesus...

It could possibly be that his church company pays nothing in taxes and then receives large amounts of taxpayer money.

    Possibly

Or you can try and plead christian victimhood, whatever

Maybe if we raise taxes and give the government more money, they will be responsible!!!

I dont care either way, i would never donate a dime to a televangelist, but the real question is whether it's legal or not.

Is the argument "it's not legal " or is the argument "but jesus"

Who has mentioned anything about legality?

You must care or you wouldn’t be defending this. It has nothing to do with “jesus” and trying to act like this is about religion when it is about companies paying nothing in taxes but receiving massive taxpayer benefits is just a desperate attempt to deflect.

I'm not cool with Mega-Churches receiving tax payer dollars. There is way too many legit Small Businesses dying that need help thanks to Democrats shutting them down.

So non-profits should not receive PPP for their employees if they qualify?

Lots of companies pay no taxes, lots more pay peanuts, lots of them received ppp money. I suspect that lots of them were other churches, non profits, etc in addition to regular for profit enterprises.

If there is no question of legality then what's the big deal?

Part-time workers qualify, do you want to apply this to all part-time workers?

I'm genuinely surprised about this - mostly because I thought his empire went belly-up after the whole flood fiasco awhile back. I didn't think it existed at all anymore.

TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis is ordering all Floridians to stay at home beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, a decision that came after mounting pressure from health officials to lock down the state in the fight against the coronavirus.

Dems voted for the boondoggle and the SBA approved his loan, and they'll forgive it too.

Oh there's no Christian victim-hood here, friend. I don't claim to know the mind of the Father but from the words of His that I've read these mega-churches come dangerously close to sin to start with and then when we hear of things like this I think its clear the lessons about stewardship and idolatry, to name a few, have been ignored. This should be made right by repaying the loan with a interest and if it was obtained through fraudulent means then big fines need to be levied upon the Church's directors.

It says it's a loan. Doesn't that mean that they have to pay it back? I hate the mega churches but I don't see an issue.
