In a true profile in courage, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Thursday evening tossed aside his past criticism of former President Donald Trump’s incitement the deadly assault of the Capitol on January 6 and embraced the ex-president once more. “My point is what happened in the past is not something relevant now. We’re moving forward,” McConnell told Fox News in response to a clip of his scathing speech last month that torched Trump for feeding “lies” to the mob of insurrectionists and “provoked” them to attack the Capitol. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...-past-condemnation-not-something-relevant-now He went on to say he would support the Orange Insurrectionist in a 2024 run for the presidency. WTF? Apparently, McTreason got the message. That being the message from a number of Repubs who pointed out to Mitch the POT needs Trump if it has any chance of electoral success in 2022. It's why McCarthy went to FL to kiss the ring weeks ago. Never mind what McTurtle said about Trump being responsible for the Capital riot. Never mind what he said about Trump still having legal exposure for his crimes. Time to let bygones be bygones. Time to focus on winning elections. "We’re moving forward,” sedition be damned.
Admittedly, I'm rather new at all things politics, but has there been a time that McConnell wasn't two-faced? I can't recall any.
Point taken. He has always put personal ambition and party over country but this was a particularly egregious example.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who enabled former President Trump to run wild with false claims of election fraud that eventually led to the deadly insurrection at the Capitol last month, has no plans to stop Trump from spewing more fraud falsehoods during his remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this weekend. In an interview with CNN published Thursday, Rubio bragged that he plans to visit Trump at some point, noting that the former president is one of his “constituents.” Staying true to his loyalty to Trump, Rubio praised the former president for supposedly bringing together “common sense wisdom and working class values” into the GOP, according to CNN. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/rubio-trump-cpac-false-election-fraud-claims Doesn't stuff like this risk a further fracturing of the POT given how despicable many found Trump's role in the insurrection to be?
He is a political windsock. The only member of Congress who vacillates more than him is Lindsey Graham..
