In American (very unwise) stratification, is there any differentiation as to what is Asian? Is it the whole swathe of people from Afghanistan to Japan called Asian, or their connections in the United States ‘Asian Americans’?
I think that may be so. I don't think Trump is the reason. I think he is a symptom. I think the rise of the white nationalist numbers (and they are still not numerous) can moreso be seen as a reaction to the illiberal neoracism growing on the left. We had been making significant progress on the race conflict issue, but I fear that is turning around for the worse as more folks on the left embrace the race war and push race as the most important identity. It spirals around and feeds the white nationalist fervor on the right.
The southern law poverty center is not a reliable source. No matter what their studies came up with they would skew the numbers that way. They are not honest especially in an election year. I would also take issue with the some of groups they identify as hate groups. I consider BLM and Antifa hate groups so it would be easy for me to make the case that under Obama left wing hate groups flourished.
I seriously doubt there has been a rise in real white supremacy groups. If people who thought that way think that Trump is one of them then why would they need to join such groups?
Trump certainly exacerbated the problem as shown from the growth after his election but you can't blame it on the left. The exaggerated view (which you seem to hold) that there is a left race war and race is the most important identity is hyperbolic nonsense. I think many on the right see a changing society, with diminishing patriarchal white dominance, and they view that as a threat to self worth. Most men don't feel that threat and don't join an armed gang who chant things like "reclaim America" or "you will not replace us".....it's telling.
Your second sentence there weakens your first. Constantly being told your second sentence there, along with other things like "white people (all of them) are racist", Whiteness is a problem, "white fragility", black people can't be racist, etc etc, is seen by some white people (women as well as men) as the pushing of a clear us vs them black vs white narrative. And rather than rebuffing that narrative like most white people, some white people embrace it. They see neoracists like Robin DiAngelo on the TV and hear about such neoracist stuff being taught in schools and in corporations, and now the military. They embrace the identity politics and decide their side (white) will win. The white guilt industry is the top recruitment tool for white nationalism and white supremacy. It isn't the only such tool, but it is the most effective I think.
The Oath Keepers alone say they have 35,000 members in 2016, so you are obviously ill informed. Who cares? You don't.
Oath keepers aren't racist. I'm I'll informed on falsehoods. No I don't care about you people calling it every when you disagree with racist. It's pathetic and it takes away from real racism.
Oh no they're not racist at all, but the the 55% was not specifically about racist organizations. So you think white nationalism is not racist? When it's an appropriate reference as in there are Latino Americans as a group while an individual in that group may be a Mexican American. Nope, white patriarchal supremacy is on the decline, minorities are demanding that their voices be heard and there should be a level playing field. The racism and sexism of the present needs to change. Conservatives hear this and say what racism or sexism? I liked my world the way it was and it's being attacked. These people need to just shut up.
The society drives men to suicide. It happens to all colors. Race does not exist. It's all in your head.
'By 2016, the group was claiming an improbable 30,000 members who were said to be mostly current and former military, law …" Oath Keepers | Southern Poverty Law Center (splcenter.org) They are an Anti-government movement.
What he means is that the people we call Asians are east Asians. Central Asians are called middle eastern or something else but technically they are from Asia. Armenia and Georgia are a countries of white Christians in Western Asia but nobody thinks of those people as Asians.
Racist black boys..... Even sounds racist just to say it doesn't it? But evidently not the other way around.
If there is any radicalization of white people it is coming from the left as Jolly has said. How would you expect people to respond to the crap that is going on? Morons calling our flag a symbol of hate? Calling white people evil? That does not make white people like blacks more. It pisses them off and I hope there is some political blowback because of this. I think most black folks find this disgusting.
I would have to disagree: It's not concerns so much that there is more involvement of multiple 'races', it's that people are being told they are guilty of things they have not done, and most are not involved with extremists. The claims of being 'incidentally' racist, or subconsciously' racist are excessive. Reading 'racism' into a waterrmelon at a summer picnic, causing people to walk on eggshells over the idea that 'white privilege' was the only thing that helped people rather than hard work and dedication. Unfortunately, there are some POC who want more than a 'level playing field' and that is where they have pushed to what seems to be a racism of their own.
You can put your fingers in your ears all you want, but there is more to it than what you say. Yes, racism and sexism need to end. And that works in all directions. In ending racism and sexism we need to NOT be racist or sexist. It is the only way to get everyone to go along. Making race and gender the politics instead of racism and sexism is a trap. The key with actual anti-racism is to establish that race is a stupid thing to care about, that we are all human and that race doesn't really mean anything. It is a social construct, right? So we can socially deconstruct it instead of boosting it as the most important thing.
