Jill is gracious, caring, intelligent and her own person. Very diplomatic and approachable too. Wishing Tokyo much success in this endeavor......... during a very challenging time.

Was about to start an Olympics thread but I see you've done it already. The Olympic games are one of mankind's greatest achievements. A place where the World can come together, putting aside all differences, and compete at different sports for the right to call themselves Olympic champions. Of course the permanently angry can manufacture all kinds of reasons to hate on it but I recommend all lovers of sport who come to this thread to talk about the events just ignore the naysayers so this doesn't just become another place to fight the culture wars. If it becomes intolerable I'm going to put the offending posters on ignore for the duration of the games. GET HYPE and GO GB.
BRAVO!!! excellent post. Let the games begin..........in good sport and good fun and continue to strive for excellence. May the winner be the best ihn and of humanity.

I'm watching the new Olympic sport of surfing. It's interesting to watch but I can't help wondering what's going to happen when the Olympics are hosted by a landlocked country.
I'm not a big Water Sports guy, but surfing can be cool. Good question about the countries w/o shorelines-- maybe the plan is to let flooding from Global Warming take care of that problem? I just saw an, actually, exciting swim meet. Very tight between the 2 top females. In the last lap, Titus made her move, & captured the gold over Ledecky, who'd had 10 of the 12 fastest times, before the final. But it was a good effort from both; nothing for anyone to feel ashamed of, or be disappointed over. Congratulations Australia!
I just watched GB win their first gold. 100m breaststroke. Adam Peaty, undefeated in 7 years has the fastest 16 times ever. 19 out of the best 20 times. He's the first Brit to ever retain an Olympic swimming title.
Thanks, I just woke up to hear we won two more gold's overnight. Mountain biking and synchronised swimming. We do punch above our weight in sports where you get wet or compete sitting down.
The Aussies are particularly good at swimming but I guess if you live on an island thousands of miles away from the nearest culture it's in your best interest to be a good swimmer.
Gold and silver for GB in the 200m freestyle. First time since 1908 that Britain has won first and second in the swimming. Holding 5th place in the medal table with 4 golds, one place above Australia with 3.
Congratulations to Hawaii's Carissa Moore for her Gold in the first ever Olympic surfing competition. Now that's what I call a proper flag.
GB lose rugby 7s bronze medal match to Argentina. Favourites Fiji win the final beating New Zealand 27-12 and answer the pub quiz question ''which flag has a bunch of bananas on it''.
