The first was Savita Halappanavar in Ireland https://www.irishtimes.com/news/soc...halappanavar-revolutionised-ireland-1.3510387 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Savita_Halappanavar Legislation at the time in Ireland tied the hands of the medical team. Sadly Savita was not the only way on in Ireland to have died because of fear of legal ramifications
The second case changed abortion law in Argentina https://www.theguardian.com/global-...apists-child-after-argentina-refuses-abortion https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...abortion-in-landmark-moment-for-womens-rights The new Texas law does not allow abortions for either rape or incest
That's because the "people" in Texass don't see anything wrong with rape and incest....in fact they probably will erase the word rape from their very limited hillbilly vocabulary because they just think that's "normal "sex"..
This was actually funny, but be careful -- The snowflake conservatives might get triggered and report you.
There is no excuse for government interference in a woman's right to bodily autonomy. You do support second amendment rights as well, right?
No because I am an Aussie and we DO value born humans But my state recently revoked a decades old statute “banning” abortion. It is still not permitted under some circumstances I.e. late terminations would have to go before an appeal board but women no longer fear imprisonment.
In 2004 a federal judge had to rule against an anti-abortion law as it included NO exceptions related to the health of the pregnant woman! These people who write these laws demonstrate a deep and disturbing lack of concern for the lives of women.
The current Texas law allows for abortion in a “medical emergency” but because it does not define what that means it means it effectively hamstrings everyone Thing is these rabid so called “pro-lifers” know that where there is a clause for allowing abortions for medical reasons it effectively negates the law itself because you cannot delve through a woman’s health record to prove she did not have the abortion for medical reasons
Those really sympathetic cases always set the precedent, but it is just like getting a wedge in the door, soon those rulings are applying to a whole category of other cases that would originally have been seen in a much less sympathetic light.
We already discussed that case. I contended that the authorities did not make an error in that case. As I remember, the argument we had was long and took up a whole thread, two separate thread in fact. But you seem to be trying to casually toss in this story again to another thread. It was at a very late gestational point in the pregnancy, the little girl just said she wanted it out, not that she specifically wanted to kill it or wanted an abortion, so they just waited a few more weeks giving the baby a decent chance of life before they prematurely removed it out of her through c-section.
Yes, the Texass state legislature is filled with cowards ....it's a scheme...and a stupid one but misogynists( MILLIONS in Texas) are gleefull if women's lives are harder...
"Mental health" is just a cop out. Abortion worker: "You'd feel very bad if you weren't allowed to get an abortion, wouldn't you? Suicidal even, right?" Viola, suddenly they can just check a box on the form and the abortion is legally allowed to proceed.
Your both rude and ignorant in this. Women commit suicide over rape and incest. And, YOU want to pretend it is a joke!! But, the thing is, mental health was not the issue in the case I cited. It was just good old fashioned interest in helping women to survive physical pathology that was at stake.
Actually you are as wrong as the OP is. Texas governor says rape and incest victims have six weeks to get abortion as he defends controversial new law “Obviously it provides at least six weeks for a person to be able to get an abortion,” Greg Abbott says of new Texas law https://www.independent.co.uk/news/.../texas-abortion-law-rape-abbott-b1915879.html
Then she better get the abortion early. (Plan B pill, shot of estrogen, etc) Otherwise, if she's going to be in denial about it, she can just remain in "denial" until the full 9 months are up. Very oftentimes that incest won't stop if an abortion is permitted. In fact very often, abortion just allows it to be covered up and the abuse to continue. A family member taking the girl to get an abortion every 6 months as he continues to impregnate her over and over again just isn't right.
LOL - as if YOU know or care what these women face. You can't claim there is a solution when the state is successfully blocking the solution from existing. And, by that I mean the assault on ALL aspects of women's reproduction health.
One of the cruelest most inhumane , misogynistic statements from an Anti-Choicer yet and that's saying something... So continued rape is OK but abortion isn't ?????? OMGAWD!
LOL - you just plain REFUSE to think or even just read the posts you respond to. - you ignore what Planned Parenthood states concerning the actual medical issue. - you ignore that Texas has been working hard to make abortions NOT AVAILABLE! - you ignore that Abbott's law is a strong attack on anyone who might HELP a pregnant woman, including victims of rape and incest.
In this sort of situation, do you really think continued abortion again and again would be better than the alternative? Also keep in mind the girl in this case is very likely not even choosing abortion. She would probably no more be given the choice over the abortion than she had choice over the abuse that was happening to her.
Will you admit that, in the vast majority of the time, the woman can get an abortion before 6 weeks if she really wants to?
You don't see how the continued abortion part of that could be even worse than the sexual abuse? I'll ask you again, do you actually think abortion - likely repeated abortions - is going to protect this girl?
