While I wish our (US) athletes well, I'm opposed to our participation in these games and won't be watching. US paying athletes to 'disrupt' Winter Olympics: China state media https://www.france24.com/en/live-ne...-to-disrupt-winter-olympics-china-state-media China warns US over 'interfering' in Winter Olympics https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220127-china-warns-us-over-interfering-in-winter-olympics https://news.yahoo.com/china-warns-us-stop-interfering-134617523.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
ALL BS.... athletes at the olympics are 99% A-political .. and not just athletes from USA.. Athletes at the Olympic level know even the slightest distraction could harm their performance they stay focused and concentrate on the sport of their specialty Athletes are there to WIN ...not to be poltical yes, there are exceptions, but very few of course China will put out propaganda stories that disparage other countries does anybody expect anything different?? after all, the China virus came from China
Looks like the Cheatin' Chinese got their first gold medal. U.S. disqualification paves way for China's 1st medal
Utterly ridiculous. Especially, the notion that the USA would be paying Athletes from OTHER Countries. Totally LMAO! The China Daily English-language newspaper, operated by the Chinese government, ran a report on Saturday citing unidentified sources who apparently claimed the U.S. was paying athletes from multiple countries to "express their discontent toward China, play passively in competition and even refuse to take part." Comical... "unidentified sources who apparently claimed" (Paging Bigfoot).
Mikaeala Shiffrin choked in her 2 best races. Starting to make Simone Biles look Prideful. Mikaela Shiffrin's Olympic struggles continued Wednesday with another shocking early exit in the first run of the slalom race. Just two days after crashing 11 seconds into the opening run of the giant slalom race -- in which she was the defending gold medalist -- the 26-year-old American recorded another "Did Not Finish," having skidded out of control and missed a gate after about 5 seconds on the course. Shiffrin, fighting back tears in a post-race interview on NBC, said she slipped and was unable to recover. https://www.espn.com/olympics/skiin...misses-gate-first-run-slalom-beijing-olympics
kinda funny that Chinas most popular athlete is actually an American born and educated 18 year old girl named Eileen Gu.. her representing China instead of the United States kinda shows the respect Gen Z has for the USA.. and with todays politicians I understand why..Ted Cruz, Donald trump, are not easy to agree with or respect if a person is sane...how about Bobert of green?? both these women be cray cray this should be a sign of direction the USA is headed here is a little girl, that was obviously born wealthy and took advantage of every benefit this country offers and decides she should represent a communist county I say the above because most people cannot afford to snow ski everyday and fly across the pacific at least once a year go spend a weekend at a modern ski resort and report back the cost if you don't agree..or book a RT ticket from San Fransico to China..there are no super saver fares crossing the pacific being a boomer, when I look at the Gen Xers and now the Gen Zers I think to myself I am glad I will be dead when they take over the world
The most impressing show has been in the luge competition. Germany swept all of them, has won every single of them. Some of Germanies medal winner broke records, having won 5 gold medals at Olympics. They won today again, and a double, what are the guys called, who go head first, Kamikaze. A double Silver and Gold. One more luge event to be finished and Germany leads, with a double is the women Kamikaze. Then come the bobs, sledge. If things go right, Germany could win every Gold medal in the Ice Channel, which has never happened before. No nation has done that. The other two Gold are very impressive single efforts, Womens 15K Biathlon and Men Combined Nordic, that was a fantastic race. All other medals German athletes have earned are from the Ice Channel.
Skeleton bob. GB usually does well at this but our sleds just aren't fast enough this time. It's a contest of technology as much as skill and athleticism and we appear to have lost our technological advantage.
She’s certainly not the first. Basketball players have been doing this for a long time. She has a personal mission to help Chinese women feel empowered. She spends a lot of time in China.
there was a time athletes went to the Olympics to represent their home country and not themselves this is why the Olympic viewership is at the lowest point in many years the Gen Ze'rs should be named Gen Me'rs even the athletes who gave the black power sign during the star spangled banner represented the USA yes, I read an article that more than one member of chinas hockey team are not china born or grown more examples of the globalization of the world
Are you implying that this girl is: 1) STILL LIVING IN THE U.S.! 2) And still a U.S. CITIZEN? That seems outrageous, to me, but when did she join the Chinese team? My thought here, is that she really wanted to compete but, for a while, it was up in the air, what the U.S. would do. In that case, her decision is completely understandable (and your omission of those central facts, would have meant that you had severely misrepresented the situation). What I had heard was going to be the U.S. "solution," to our diplomatic quandry-- over treatment of that Chinese minority group, I'm gonna call the Weavers-- sounded a bit bizarre to me, as well: the U.S. athletes are all there, and they do represent the US., but officially, the U.S. was not participating (or is it a U.S. team, but it doesn't represent the U.S.?). In either case, is that in the ballpark? And is that what we went ahead with? The only practical difference, I thought I'd heard, was that they won't play the U.S. National Anthem, when Americans win medals; Haaaa!!-- Now, our athletes can't kneel, in protest of any American problems, during our anthem. That makes your country, the main target-- In your FACE, China!
not sure if she had to surrender her US citizenship to ski for china or not but I did read she is enrolled at Stanford next fall,,maybe she can attend online from china she is of the generation that has very little regard for political norms or traditions the lack of love for the USA by its citizens is not unusual in these times think about it, Trump is the face of the USA..he is hard to respect
You did not address my central question: was her decision based solely on her concern, at the time, that the American team would not be permitted to compete?
I could only guess what reasons she had for deciding to represent China rather than the USA all I know about her is she was born and educated in the USA and she decided to represent China rather than the USA in the Olympics I have no idea why she made that decision.. I just know what she did, not why she did it but it is very apparent, even though she was born and educated in the USA and will return to the USA for further education she has more regards for Communist China than USA.. if this were not true, she would have represented the USA
Well, very often, without knowing the "why," a person cannot make a valid assessment of another's actions; this, I would contend, is certainly one of those cases. So, if your response was meant to imply that you were content to remain ignorant of "why she did it," because in your mind there could be no extenuating circumstances, then I see little more to discuss. You, apparently look at all the work which athletes dedicate their lives to, as only properly being in the service of national pride. I believe that the athlete's personal goals should be acknowledged as a major consideration, especially when the window to make one's mark, in the sport at issue, is relatively short (add to that, the only once every 4-year staging of this event), and Olympic success is vital to making that mark, and having a successful career. Again, without your knowing the pertinent facts, you have no tangible basis for that conclusion. If you were not aware, it is actually a fairly common practice, which I think you might be able to make at least a more valid argument against, for athletes of one country to play for Olympic teams of other countries, as in soccer/football, for example.
I have made no accusations other than state these facts .. 1. This girl was born and educated in the USA 2. this girl decided to represent a communist country 3. this girl is enrolled to attend Stanford in the fall.. mine is not to reason why her personal reason for doing the above is none of my business but her decision does confirm the loyalty she has for the USA no matter the reasons she chose China over the USA case closed
Your post only makes clear, that you don't know the difference between a FACT-- like her birthplace, and where she grew up; or the country for whom she is competing, in this Olympics-- and an ACCUSATION, which is simply ANY CONCLUSION, which is meant as an indictment against a person. Hence, your statement in all caps, about the person's loyalty to the USA, is an accusation, regardless of how well, or poorly, your facts prove or support your accusation. In this case, I have stated that your factual basis is deficient. You are not even attempting to change my mind, or challenge my opinion, with any argument defending your own view. You merely repeat your claim, that competing on China's team, is the equivalent of disloyalty to America. I have explained how that may not be a fair conclusion. Your reply: "case closed." Need l, after explaining to you, the primer term, "accusation," also have to educate you on the meaning of, "debate?" This is a forum, specifically for that purpose. If you are not going to present an argument, you have no cause, IMO, to continue to "reply."
