White House to Jim Jordan, James Comer: Sorry, but you have to restart your oversight requests

    A top lawyer for the president pledged in letters to those members that the administration would operate in good faith with them. But he also said that oversight demands made by congressional Republicans during the last Congress would have to be started over.

    In respective letters to Reps. James Comer (R-Ky) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), White House Special Counsel Richard Sauber said that the Biden administration had no immediate plans to respond to a slew of records requests that both men made the past several weeks. In those letters, obtained exclusively by POLITICO, Sauber described such requests as constitutionally illegitimate because both Jordan, who is expected to chair the House Judiciary Committee, and Comer, who is expected to head the Oversight Committee, made them before they had any authority to do so.

    “Congress has not delegated such [oversight] authority to individual members of Congress who are not committee chairmen, and the House has not done so under its current Rules,” wrote Sauber, one of the White House’s top oversight lawyers.

    I'm pretty sure the word "sorry" does not appear in the formal notifications, since there is no reason for the WH to be sorry at all this premature posturing.

    I had no idea "formal" records requests had been made by the minority, but this is the correct response to those. Do it right at the right time and you may get some of what you claim you want (but I suspect really couldn't care less)

    We shall see how much this WH cooperates with these bomb throwers in Congress, but I doubt anybody will not be surprised if they don't for every single petty request. They do have a country to run instead of being there exclusively to run it into the ground.

    Super glad the WH is apparently prepared to deal with the new SPECTRE Congress...

    I'd like to be at the hearings concerning the school board meetings. They've already got 1 strike against them, but that won't stop the Republicans !

    Shall we start a pool on how long it takes them to deliver articles of impeachment to the Senate ? I got my money on 9 months.

    Comer and Jordan, prematurely posturing withOUT the actual authority (yet), shucks, must be the drama queens feeding the base. A feral base can be turned in any direction.

    Any committee lead by Jim Jordan will not see any witness from WH or Hunter Biden. Jim Jordan himself defied Jan 6 subpoenas. That will be the key argument in front court not to comply with Congressional subpoenas.

    The Republicans can just start issuing subpoenas and see how the Biden lawyers like it.

    Well, certainly if they subpoena somebody from Congress, that's now a non starter.. I imagine most other subpoenas will be complied with, just to show the toddlers how it's done, from an administration with little to hide...

    As a centrist who believes in checks and balance, I don’t want to see anyone above the law. I want to see Congressional subpoena has such a power that people can’t go to court or defy subpoena regardless which party is in power. I want to see every HW staffer comply with congressional subpoena.

    Reality is Jim Jorden set a precedent that “ congressional committees are not legitimate so you don’t have to comply” . His own argument will be used against him every single case next two years.

    With such a Narrow Margin for Error...
    I would predict that the GOP NEVER Gets enough votes to send articles to The Senate...

    Articles of Impeachment will be on the floor by Memorial Day... that's how the terminally angry and confused work....

    The ONLY investigation I wouldn't mind seeing run (from your list and others) is the AF drawdown. The first steps were wrong and poorly run, although the administration saved itself by nailing the endgame.

    Of course, there's not a MAGA in the House with the first clue on how to run a decent investigation, so that attempted political hit will fail bigly... But it was a mess to start....

    "On the Floor" and "Delivered to the Senate" are 2 SEPARATE Things...
    Obviously, they could "be on the floor" (before ultimately being Voted Down and never making it to The Senate)...
    Without being delivered to The Senate, "On the floor" doesn't mean Jacksheet!

    100% Agree, but that's my guess as to the timeframe... Memorial Day 2023

    Could be right around the same time Mango could finally be facing indictments, so timing is key in MAGA world....
