6 dead whales washed ashore in New York and New Jersey near surveying sites for offshore wind (wshu.org) Fox News has covered this story too. It seems the surveying process for proposed giant wind turbines involves heavy saturation with sonar, and that harms the whales. The Navy has known for years that sonar harms whales and dolphins. This is to advance the Green Agenda, and should be stopped quickly if we had good leadership, which we don't. Also a killer whale washed ashore in North Florida. Orcas are usually not seen this far south.
No Robster, they didn't commit suicide silly boy. Their bodies with sensitive sound based systems were harmed by massive sonar blasts.
The entire proposal should be abandoned. Killing wildlife for the wind turbines is not a fair tradeoff. Ruining the natural beauty is not a fair tradeoff. It would also decimate the fishing industry and those who rely upon it.
Well my sarcasm aside, if these whales did die by sonar, why does it automatically become a political issue.
Because politicians are pushing the wind turbines which have already demonstrated in Texas and elsewhere their many failings. Like all airfoils, for example, they cannot function in ice. Equally important is that they are hostile to wildlife. The green politicians are pushing this fiasco, and killing whales and other marine life in the process.
They both use the renewal energy source called wind. Their construction is irrelevant to their usage.
The Florida killer whale died of a disease, but nice attempt at trying to twist it into a political issue. The whales in NJ had injuries on them, which they think was cause by collision with ships.
Submarines are the biggest problem for whales regarding Sonar. Then pollution, global warming and over-fishing but many ignore those problems particularly those with an agenda against renewable energy
Has it been established beyond doubt that the whales beached themselves because of the sonic disruptions. Just askin' Regards, stay safe 'n well.
Only for the most simple-minded is the construction and many other factors irrelevant to a rational discussion of the 'big picture' regarding the Green Agenda.
Is your understanding of sonar principles and use complete enough to understand how whales live their lives relying upon sound waves in the water?
I just wanted to share what killed those whales (because its known), while you speculate they were killed by sonars. They were no killed by sonars. Does sonar cause diseases or injuries consistent with vessel strike? No, they do not.
To answer my own previous question, NO, your understanding of sonar and how whales rely upon it to exist is way beyond 'incomplete'. It is non-existent or you are unable to apply it to real life situations.
Its irrelevant, because we know they were NOT killed by sonars. Having said that, you are free to believe whatever you want.
Wrong since the technology is already being implemented, let alone the greater efficiency. BTW, Tesla noted at the turn of the 20th century, that fossil fuels were an eventful dead end.
PLF No, the sonars didn't kill them, just as the clot shots have not killed everybody who took them. The sonars harmed the whales. The sonar screwed up the whales OWN sonar so badly that they could not function properly. THAT is why the huge statistical clue (irrelevant to yourself) of 5 whales washing up in 4-6 weeks means something to more informed people.
How do you know it wasn't plastics ingestion? Oh, you don't know, and you don't really care, as long as you can use this for your anti-renewables agenda. You don't really care about the whales either. because they are usually expendable for the profit-driven, capitalist mindset. But, when you can use them as political football.....
Plastics have been polluting the planet including the oceans for many long decades, but there have not been this many whales wash up on NJ and NY beaches in such a short time period UNTIL the sonar bombardment for the surveys conducted for the wind turbines began. FYI, I have long practiced renewables. I am a fanatic of recycling. I've been doing it since it began. I've mowed with electric lawn mowers going back 15 years. So your cheap shots are like most everything else you seem to post, based on ignorance.
The fake propaganda by climate change deniers is unfortunate. 'No evidence' offshore wind killing whales in NJ-NY “There is no evidence that any of the recent strandings so far have been tied to offshore wind,” said Allison McLeod, policy director for the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “The number one threat to the marine environment is climate change. Offshore wind is one of the most important tools we have to protect the entirety of our marine ecosystem.” “This whole thing is being brought up as a hypothesis that has no basis in fact,” added Capt. Paul Eidman, a charter boat captain and head of Anglers for Offshore Wind. “I'm concerned by some groups' baseless claims that the deaths are linked to surveys operating off our coast. We don't know that. There's no basis in reality for that." Scientists from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, where the most recent dead whale washed ashore last week, said Sunday that preliminary results of a necropsy indicate the 32-foot-long female humpback whale was hit by a ship. That was also the suspected cause of death for another humpback that washed ashore in neighboring Atlantic City a week earlier.
