Mosaic is a large strip mining operation for phosphate here in Florida that is absolutely devastating to the environment. In addition to producing millions upon millions of gallons of slightly radioactive and acidic wastewater that eventually finds its way into the rivers and the Gulf of Mexico....( Which I'm sure is the main contributor to red tide) Fluoride is also another one of their mining byproducts. Hey if you can't accidentally spill millions of gallons of it into the Gulf of Mexico at least you can give it to the appropriate water authorities to slip it into the water supply

Bingo.... Your article hit the nail on the head that one of the main sources is a byproduct of fertilizer refinement which is exactly what Mosaic does. They want to mine 19,000 acres here in this county next and we've been fighting it for years but sadly it's probably just a matter of time until enough palms get greased. If you ever want to see the Peace River you better get down here to Southwest Florida before they start that mining operation because what's left of it will be destroyed. Oh well I long ago quit drinking tap water anyways but I'm sure they're inserting it into the bottled water nonetheless
