Would you be Ok with a dictator that promises to do the things you agree with?

Discussion in 'Political Opinions & Beliefs' started by Golem, Nov 27, 2023.

?

Would you vote for a dictator who agrees with you?

  1. I would vote for a permanent dictatorship so long as the dictator agrees with my beliefs.

  2. I would not vote for a permanent dictatorship even if the dictator agrees with me.

Results are only viewable after voting.

This is somewhat hypothetical, but not completely. Imagine somebody promises to do everything you always wanted.

Maybe you're a left winger wants universal healthcare, a woman's right to abortion, a sturdy safety-net, free education from Pre-K to a University post-degree, sensible gun regulations, ...

Or maybe you're a right winger who wants no (or minimal) federal taxes, no gun regulations whatsoever, completely shut down boarders to refugees. Maybe you want to bring back segregation and to outlaw gay marriage...

I don't know. This will vary from one person to the next. Simply think of the best possible government policies you want.

    EXCEPT...

In order for this "perfect leader" to become our head of state, he will have to be pretty much a dictator. With the power to send political enemies to prison with the swish of a pen. And they would stay in power forever.

Loaded question - exaggerating the "wants" - good for the left; dastardly for the right.

Only if it was the only way to save the planet from climate change. I don't believe voters will ever support the kind of draconian economic distabling measures needed to stop this fast enough to alter the trajectory. They will vote out any politician that proposes severe cuts in fossil fuel use, bans on commuting etc, and lifestyle changes coming from Washington. I would give up Democracy to save the planet.

At one time while I was a true believer in the Democrat party and their mantra of two chickens, affordable housing, subsidies for the needy, and good jobs ect, ect I might have actually voted yes :( The propaganda has always been alluring with the party..

But fortunately I woke the hell up and realized they were not really about the American people.

Before all the diehard D believers go off on rant, as a con-servative I have come to the conclusion none of the capital hill gang give a tinkers damn about the American people..

    Do no..

    Absolute power corrupts absolutely

Even people that started with good intentions will eventually become corrupt if their power cannot be removed or it’s difficult to do so. Just look at the retirement home known as congress and the USSC

There seems to be some dissidence. Everyone vote no but there are several tRump supporters voting. The Heritage Foundation has plans to do exactly that. If you read up on their “Project 2025” installing tRump as dictator, IF he wins reelection, is exactly what they, with tRump’s full support and cooperation, plan to do.

It is not possible to dictate what dictators do once they have power. What you are really asking is "Are you gullible?"

Not everyone subscribes to the same conspiracy theories you do. Not everyone thinks Trump is worse than hitler like you claimed.

The Heritage Foundation is, and has been for years, a primary think tank of the republican party, now tRumpublican party.

Conservative groups draw up plan to dismantle the US government and replace it with Trump’s vision
Led by the long-established Heritage Foundation think tank and fueled by former Trump administration officials ... a nearly 1,000-page “Project 2025” handbook and an “army” of Americans, the idea is to have the civic infrastructure in place on Day One ... Instead, Trump-era conservatives want to gut the “administrative state” from within, by ousting federal employees they believe are standing in the way of the president’s agenda and replacing them with like-minded officials ...

I told a joke that suggested tRump is worse than Hitler. YOU ran off the deep end and took it seriously.

That's true enough. But! The Heritage Foundation and their "2025 Project" is a right wing demon.

TRaitor tRump is far and away THE greatest threat These United States has ever faced. And with plans like "Project 2025" in place if he were to be reelected tRaitor tRump's threat is growing by the day.

If anyone is interested in reading it instead of taking the word of some lefty loon working at AP news, here's the guide.

I’ve put you on my Christmas gift list, to receive a chunk of coal. I mean with all that hate filled slang you use referencing Trump… I figure you could use something to keep that homefire burning. ;)

There is NOTHING equivalent to "Project 2025" from a liberal perspective. Project 2025 isn't reliant on tRump getting reelected but, since he is the conservative front runner, that's where all the noise is being made. Heritage does have alternative plans, but since that wold be similar to betting against themselves, they are focusing on getting tRump reelected and transitioned to, what amounts to, dictator on day one of a new administration.

I like it though I can also understand why It scares the hell out the left though. It is a direct assault on the power grasping little minds. I always find it hilarious when leftest tell me that the first president to try to cut government power over peoples daily lives since Reagan is the wannabe dictator.
