https://www.foxnews.com/politics/illegal-immigrants-biden-admin-amount-greater-population-36-states Now I understand that a border bill was shot down by the republicans. That border bill did allow for a very large number of migrants though so I see their point. It was tremendous. I think we should go to a merit based system and get rid of asylum all together. But that’s about a bill not the fact that Biden if he wanted to could very well reenact title 42 but he won’t because it was a Trump policy that was effective. Hell he could have continued to build the wall. He could let Texas keep their razor wire. He could do so much more than he is right now. I haven’t ran into so many people that couldn’t speak English in a years time ever as I have this year. People holding up lines because the tellers can’t understand them. Begging for money. There are states begging their residents to house these expectant jack wagons for Christ sakes. As if this administration’s policies weren’t hard enough on our wallets now we’re expected to have strangers in our homes. Biden put a woman in charge of the Border and this is what we get. We definitely need new leadership.
7.2M were apprehended and millions expulsed, and many others pending asylum rejection and deportation. Title-42 was is a Health Emergency policy from 1944, and in 2020 The CDC recommended that it should be enacted to counter Covid-19, and Trump admin agreed. The Bill, which was rejected by GOP House, would have made the Title-42 authority permanent without the Health Emergency requirement. So, it was not Trump policy and nor was it discontinued because it was his policy or because it was effective. It was discontinued because the Health Emergency was long gone in May 2023 The Supreme Court ordered it to be removed so that CBP can do their work.
You’re right that it was a health emergency but you’re wrong that the bill produced would have allowed title 42 to go into effect permanently. It would only allow title 42 to go into effect if we surpassed 5k illegal crossings per day for 5 days straight and only enact it for a certain time frame. So it’s as simple as not surpassing that number on every 4th day and essentially does nothing. Did you know that the Biden administration has committed to opening regional processing centers in Latin America to provide humanitarian protection as well as information on legal pathways to enter the United States?
It was not going to be called Title-42, but something else, but it would have had the same authority to turn people back on the spot. The GOP opted for Status-Quo, so we'll hear them cry and moan about the problem they chose to keep. Likewise, in 2012, they also opted to keep the problem, and here were are, listening them cry and moan about it. You are referring to the total shutdown limit.
yep, Republicans told the world we blocking any bill to address this, hurry up and come while you have time
It goes through that in the article I posted in the OP. It does grant that authority after the 5k per day for X amount of consecutive days. It does not give that authority as broadly as you are thinking.
After 5K limit, the border would have been shut down completely. The authority to turn people back on the spot would have been an option 24/7.
He said he was going to do this back in 2015 and we are all shocked he followed through with his plans? "An unrelenting stream of immigration. NON STOP NON STOP"
That's Trump and others claimed, and because people are gullible, they believed it and started to repeat it (you are doing it now), but the bill didn't say they'd let 5000 per day into the US. It said they would be detained, and removed in 15 days if they failed their asylum interview. "migrants who tried to cross the border illegally would be detained immediately, with their asylum claims decided while they were in detention. People would be removed immediately within 15 days if they failed their asylum claim interviews." It would have been the end of the "catch and release" policy as well as the long waits in US to hear their case in the immigration courts. The authors of the bill, like Lankford (R) were not amused their own party twisted the intent of the bill into a lie in order to sabotage it. Well, they got their will, and they can continue to shed their crocodile tears about the immuration issues.
You keep using that "expulsed" term like it means the same as denied entry but if you try to tie the two words together on google you get a mixed bag of definitions. Expelled means a legal order to leave but it would seem it doesn't involve physically removing them. At that point it's called deportation so it would seem to be two separate actions. The Supreme Court ruled that BP may remove razor wire for access, not that Texas has to remove it.
Well, I'm glad I had the opportunity to explain it to you. After 5000 they close the border and stop taking more people into the detention center. Its a matter of capacity. Next day they deport the ones who waited 14 days and failed the asylum application process, and that makes room for the next 5000.
https://apnews.com/article/border-e...-immigration-aa424bab9d68cacbf56cb0564aa59c5b "But under the Senate legislation, asylum would be suspended for those who cross illegally when arrests for illegal crossings average 5,000 per day over seven days along the Mexican border, or 4,000 at the Homeland Security Department’s discretion. The last month that daily arrests were below 5,000 was February 2021. Asylum would also be suspended if arrests top 8,500 in a single day." Not like it matters. "we would clamp down on asylum suspension if" is a rhetorical nonsense statement by a government who's show in 4 years that they are neither willing nor capable of following through with that statement. Just stay out of Texas's way. They've solved the problem.
For the reason I explained, - the opponents, including Trump, lied about what the bill would, and would not do, and people bought the lies. Johnson, the Speaker of the House repeated the lies himself. Based on your comment, you bought it hook, line and sinker. Its amazing how misinformation works, isn't it.
Lets say that the Republicans win the next election and follow through on Trumps promise to start deporting all the illegals, just how will they physically remove so many? Mexico may be reluctant to accept so many, who will just stay in Mexico until the can illegally cross the border again. CYFD will have to be expanded to deal with all those children born to illegals in the US. The children are US citizens so can't be deported, leaving only 3 possibilities. The mother voluntarily take her child with her when deported, the child being left with relatives who have to be in the US legally, or they are taken into CYFD care until they find foster parents. Just crying "But you're breaking up families so I have to stay in the US" can't work.
A less talked about effect is the additional illegal population will be included in the census, and will affect the allocation of electoral votes. So there is that.
