What values do the political left/right share?

Democracy depends upon shared values. The problem is that a democracy that places high value on freedom is doomed to be undone by the conflict that such freedom and diversity breeds. It seems to me that in America the left and right want to expand their freedoms while doing all they can to limit the freedoms of the opposition. What shared values do they even have that could be strong enough to bring them back to a more respectful and cooperative place? I am hard pressed to even think of a shared value the left and right have. Can you think of any?

Family? Unlikely. There is too much subjectivity as to what a healthy family even is thus exemplifying the division such subjectivity creates. I can’t think of a topic that would not fall victim to the division subjectivity creates.

Thoughts?

 

The right, leave us and our kids alone, the left hell no you have to do exactly what we say and believe exactly what we believe or we will destroy you. Not a lot of room for compromise.

 

Nothing you mention has anything to do with left and right. Neither wants to limit anybody's freedom. I believe you're thinking about MAGAs. MAGAs are neither left nor right. They are fascists.

The REAL left and right (today usually known as RINOs) share many values in common. All those noted in the Preamble of the Constitution. We only disagree on how to obtain them.

There has got to be some by sheer probability, but I can't think of any right now.

 

Both probably like food but don't want to be fat.

 

Some on the right want to ban books and bring back school prayer. I don’t lie to myself about this anymore… both sides want to control what us and our kids can do. Both sides are blind to their hypocrisy, but boy can they easily spot it in the other.

 

I don't think I agree with a single word there, lol. The right does not want to leave people alone these days. I don't think the right and left even agree on reality. We can thank fox news for that.

 

Left will still eat Chick-fil-A and the right will still watch movies from Hollywood.

 

Unfortunately they are divided over how to accomplish the above and who to help and to what extent. The subjectivity breeds the division that is pulling the left and right apart.

Having like values is of little consequence when we cannot come together to make them manifest.

 

I think both make my point that subjectivity makes agreement problematic. We are all to various degrees blinded by our subjective perspectives.

Total BS. BOTH sides have their issues they want to force onto others. THAT is a fact.

 

Divided people are easier to control. As long an Americans are at each others throats, they can continue to spend our money like thieves with stolen credit cards. For me, I feel that reducing government power to a minimum will allow people to live by their beliefs while not forcing them on others. If you don't agree with abortion, don't get one. If you don't like guns, don't buy one. If people of the same sex want to marry, no government interference is needed. If Americans united, politicians would never get away with the abuses of power we see today.

 

The activist Democrat left wants total control of the political system. They call the shots in the Democrat Party. They regard the people who have traditionally supported them as sheep who are obliged to do what they are told.

There are to be no differences of opinion within the Democrat Party. It is a monolith. Look at the way West Virginia senator Joe Mansion was treated for getting out line with party orthodoxy.

 

I wanted to pop in and see if anyone has discovered any shared values.
