I opened this for all the pope and Coptic supporters on PF so they can send their condolences.

I'm sure it will run for pages and pages knowing how much posters here like making threads about Egypts Coptic Christians.

Not sure if he was a believer in St Patrick or not but he died on this day they celebrate and get drunk for someone they call a Saint of Ireland

I think many Coptic Christians will be relieved now they can maybe have new laws now he is gone and can divorce etc

So who's likely to be your new Pope and what does it mean in all the chaos of post Mubarak Egypt? How does a new Pope get chosen, anything like the Roman Catholic Pope?

The Pope is dead - Long live the Pope.

Whoever will be next , shall hopefully serve the demands of a new age - and a New Egypt.

Change is constant and the essence of Life .

Well the TV were running hours of old footage of him yesterday. Some documentaries on the Egyptian channels etc. The news readers were all wearing black and the channels had black stripe for condolence, the usual things.

His funeral will be on Tuesday and all the Copts are crying and all meeting in the churches and cathedrals around the country wanting to see his body.
I guess the funeral will be held in the biggest cathdral in Cairo but I am not sure because he was really the pope of Alex??? For sure he will be buried in Wadi Natrun at the big monastery there. I expect all the MP's and SCAF and Presidential candidates will attend and all the parties will be at the funeral. Funerals are open to anyone here so Muslims go to Coptic C's and Coptic C's go to Muslim ones and they all join in the public services in the streets for neighbours who die.

I think the only problem will come from the Wahabis. If there is trouble it will come from them but I hope they just shut up and stay away. They are new to us here so it's hard to predict their behaviour.

I read that some bishops names will be elected and written on papers and a blind child will choose one of the named papers leaving the decision to Gods will.

You pray to the moon and a chunk of meteorite housed in the Kaaba. Bunch of primitive screw heads. You might as well be a cannibal.

    I found out more

Within one week the Coptic Synod has to choose one interim leader.

This interim leader along with 14 Synod members choose list of candidates. There can be no more than 6 candidates.

These candidates names have to be published in 3 of Egypts daily newspapers.

Then a committee is formed of all the bishops and elders and church people to choose 3 names. The top 3.

Then they will organise a big open celebration thing in the Cathedral and then get a blind child to choose from the 3 named papers and that person gets the top job.

We should have president and new pope the same time June.

Pope Shenouda famously said that he would never visit the Holy Jerusalem in his life until it was free of Israeli occupation.

He would only go when he and the Muslim Grand Mufti of Al Azhar walked side by side with Palestinian visas in their passports.

What do you think of that statement Bitterweed?

So they have a better chance of a good Pope than you all have of a good president!

What else could he say if he wanted to protect his people? He and his flock are outnumbered 9 to 1..They are being exterminated as we speak..

By the way..I have always believed that the Europeans and Truman made a bad decision by granting Jews a homeland that was already occupied..You don't give away something you don't 'own'. But I wouldn't condone our standing by while the Jews are slaughtered either..Once again..nations have created a nightmare with their intervention.

And I believe Jerusalem should be a city open to all faiths...not divided up to be fought over by wolves..But God will settle that for once and for all.

He was wrong to say so, if he really had said so. But this is unimportant now.

    Yes, that is indeed true.
It shows that Coptic Christians and Muslims are united as Egyptians.

What's your nationality? What's your religion? Who gave you the authority to speak in the name of the Copts?

It really is not relevant as to what my religion and nationality is. However, I do live in Egypt and have many many Coptic friends who all agree with the policy and opinion of the late Pope as regards Jerusalem. I am certainly not speaking in the name of the Copts but speaking as to what the late Pope himself said who did speak in the name of the Copts.

If you are a Copt and Egyptian, what problem do you have with that?

The company with whom I interact with- Muslim and Christian Egyptians - mourn the loss of this true Egyptian.
