Best gifts for a 5 year old girl

I bought my niece these Lego-like blocks that are shaped like turtles. There are a ton of different ways to connect them. She absolutely loves them.

 

Beer and cigarettes.

Take her to one of those stores where she can pick a piece of green pottery of her choice, and spend the next two hours painting it right there. . . she'll love the feeling of power it gives her to be able to pick any color she wants, and make the piece she selects her own (a frame, a piggy bank, a mug, a cute animal, a plate. . .it doesn't matter). She may discover artistic talent. . .
Then, take her for an ice cream while her "piece of art" is being baked in the store's oven. She'll be so proud, and so happy with her day!

 

Good idea! You don't have a link or anything do you? I have no clue what you're talking about to be honest. Art and I never got along.... But she actually loves art so nice one!

 

If this child is artistic in any way, keep her supplied w/art materials. Even glitter - messy stuff, but the kids love it to make their pix prettier....

My son was born artistic & always kept him supplied w/all that stuff, including a lego set every yr among his gifts b/c they can really get creative w/that. He's drawn some great pix when he was a kid that I always kept.....

Same thing if the kid is musically inclined.... if the child loves music, get them a set of drums! lol........ m/b a little piano?

 

I obviously don't know where you live. . .but there is usually one of those place in every small to medium size town. . . unfortunately they have a different name everywhere!

Even if art and you never really mixed. . .I bet YOU"ll enjoy that time as much as the child! It's actually more fun for both you and the child if YOU also pick a piece of green pottery to paint. . .and it doesn't matter if you can't paint. . .they have all kind of stickers, and stamps, and fun colors and puffy colors to make it look fun and (most of the time) good anyway!

Try it, you'll like it! You can even have a "birthday party" with pizza and cake there! The place usually has special packages that offers it!

hahahaha that is incredible. I'll have to ask. To be honest I just got back into her life a month ago so I'm not sure. Parental alienation is not cool folks.

My Dad had me till I was about eleven..I don't remember one gift from him..and guess what, it never mattered..He was 64 when I was born and pretty much took me everywhere he went..He taught me to read, to play double solitaire and gin rummy... and what was important in life..

On the occasions that my mother showed up..she came sweeping in with lots of crap..maybe to make up for her absence..I knew what she was about although my Dad never said a word against her..

We have four adult children in their 40's..they seem to recall the talks and the fun times we had together..not so much the stuff.

Not that I wouldn't get her a gift..and a good book you could share..but I'd see what she'd like to do and maybe take her to lunch and the zoo, or something similar...That's what kids remember..

 

It really is. It happened at just the right time too. Her mother remarried and had another baby so she's not paying as much attention to her. Bad a bing bad a boom HERE I COME!!!!

You are absolutely correct. Gifts can never replace parenting.

 

Excellent post and very true........ my dad would take me fishing w/him a lot and what good memories and other fun times.....

Pix! I took a lot of pix of my kid's birthdays and Xmas times and every month in between..... that's one way to get kids giggling and laughing - looking at pix of themselves w/family & friends......

To me, pix are the most priceless of all gifts.......

 

I wouldn't. I would keep what i have. Pop that suckah in a relatively conservative investment vehicle and let it earn money. Make my decisions at leisure.

 

I know you've got some time before this happens but when she starts dating. Threaten her dates with bodily injury maybe death if they don't bring her home in as good a condition as when she left.

Your attention will be very important in making sure she doesn't look for daddy's attention in any male.

I'm serious as a heart attack. You put the fear of God into your daughter's dates. And you make sure that she knows that SHE is a princess and not to be trifled with.

That reminds me of a male friend who's daughter was going out on her first date.

Before her date arrived, he sat her down for a father/daughter talk about boys... he said to her 'the first thing to never do is do NOT touch his pee-pee and do NOT let him touch your pee-pee..." I went home laughing.....

 

I think he waited a little too long.
