heres the lastest video link from Panetta: US could be dragged into East China Sea dispute
The US won't likely get involved in this. If it did, it'd have to get involved in the Korea-Japan dispute, and that would get ugly pretty quickly as both are US allies. Korea has problems with most of its neighbors, as does Japan obviously. Vietnam does, most of the Pacific islands. It's a region recently hit by war that has major elements of distrust in each other. Territorial disputes and a focus on domestic problems has really seen Asian developed (and major developing) nations not really engage in true diplomatic relations.
Someone is playing divide and conquer games with China and Japan again. They are brother nations and should respect each other, even turn the cheek now and then.
The Japanese killed more than 13 million Chinese during the Second Sino-Japanese War. I don't think they view each other as brothers.
yeah and theres a lot of revengeful thoughts by the Chinese i see, check out this sign Japanese Must All Be Killed': Hate Sign in China Goes Viral http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...-regrets-anti-japan-photo-at-china-dealership they dont care if they nuclear too??
China's exceptionally nationalistic youth are going to drive the country to great heights this century... I just hope it remains as rhetoric, as it likely will.
This is a sensitive time in China. The Chinese public are going ape (*)(*)(*)(*) over Japan at the same time there's a leadership transition on the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CCP.
The Chinese won't go nuclear over the Diaoyu/Shenkaku Islands imo. The Chinese won't go nuclear at any time imo unless they face an existential struggle or China is faced with the loss of a full blown war and the CCP might fall as a result. Just my opinion.
The Chinese hate the Japanese and its well justified in my opinion. The Japanese are probably the most racist people on the planet and would never consider a "chinaman" his brother. They are beneath the Japanese people.
I hope not too nationalist. The Han Chinese are the world's largest single ethnic group, constituting over 19% of the global population, while the second-largest single ethnicity, the Bengali people, account for around 4.8%. In a single nation with a single purpose that could be potentially very dangerous for the rest of us. If you consider the gender imbalance and need to secure resources as their economy continues to grow I don't think it would be too alarmist to suggest war is a possibility in the future and not just limited to Japan vs China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population
The islands in question were ceded to Japan after they defeated China in their 1895 war. Then the islands were returned to Japanese control after the US ceded the rule of Okinawa to them in 1972. The Chinese made no fuss about this until potential gas and oil reserves were found around and under the islands. They've now taken an interest in the islands, claiming that the treaty the US signed with Japan forced Japan to give up any claim to the islands. The unfortunate thing is that there has been a great deal of rapprochement between China and Japan and it's being undone by nationalists of both countries. I wouldn't go so far as to claim that all of Japan is racist but there is still a faction of Japanese that are very nationalistic, very militaristic, worship the emperor, drive around in black vans with loudspeakers blaring almost fascist slogans...............you know, just like Republicans here!
