That is too severe of a sentence, the elderly lady was not permanently injured.

well i would say that 5 years is very severe punishment given to that lady i think that she didnt did any crime or murder that she is getting imprisonment so severly. thats a bit unfair of this (*)(*)(*)(*)ing law

 

She's not any lady and what's even scarier about her is she reeks of being a sociopath b/c she didn't show any remorse in attacking and injuring the 70 yr old.

Someone like her needs to be locked up as long s possible and I bet if that had been your mother or grandmother, you'd be saying the same thing......

 

I don't know where you live, or where you're talking about, but killing someone with a car in Florida is called Vehicular Homicide. It's a second degree felony, and it can get you the death penalty or life imprisonment.

As for the attack on the 70 year old woman, in Florida that would be a 3rd degree felony and you can get 5 years in state prison (for battery on a senior citizen - someone over 65 years of age). The sentence was appropriate and maybe should have been even more severe. You can kill somebody by punching them in the face, blind them, put them in a coma, etc. Especially someone 70 years old.

Although I consider this perpetrator a worthless trashbag, I will say one thing in her defense, and that is that the educational systems all across America do not teach criminal law. You don't ordinarily get law instruction until you are in the upper grades of high school, and even then it's usually an elective, not a required course and it's usually business law, not criminal. I'll bet this woman didn't even know what she was doing was a crime. You'd be surprised how many adults are walking around with a high school diploma (or even some college) with no idea of the criminal laws that they are bound by. A lot of blame goes to the educational system in America which teaches kids all about explorers like Columbus, Balboa, Lief Ericson, and Pizzaro, and not a word about the difference between an assault, a battery, an aggravated assault, stalking, etc.

 

Usually I agree w/your posts, but the last paragraph of this one kinda blew me away....."I'll bet this woman didn't even know what she was doing was a crime"... are you kidding? So, you think she was born and raised in the jungle where anything went? This 27 yr old beast knew what she did to that lady was a crime. By the age of 27, a person learns something about law&order, what's illegal, crimes, etc. even if they weren't taught while growing up or in school. They become street wise and they learn - and the article said nothing about her being mentally evaluated and showed signs of having diminished mental capacity or anything - nothing!

She just showed no remorse for what she had done and that's a definite sign of how dangerous she is......

 

The perp was clearly in the wrong for hitting the woman. There was absolutely no legitimate reason for her to do that. Given the facts of the case 5 years in prison is a reasonable sentence.

However, I would give the perp two other options. Amputation of her right arm at the elbow or 200 lashes with a bullwhip on her back, over the course of 4 months. If she accepted either one of those she wouldn't have to serve prison time.

As to the OP though. Good. 5 Years will do. At 70 years old you cannot take a punch like a younger person can, and in many times once a senior fractures something..usually a hip...it seems everything goes downhill for them from that point on.
