    well, should we?

I think that we should; The world is cold and harsh, one cannot stand alone. Okay, we've been alone for two hundred years and it's been kinda nice and all, but still. A strong military is important, for all diplomatic power ultimately rests on military power. Sweden on it's own isn't all that impressive and powerful in comparison to other bigger countries, so I think that in order to further our goals we should join up with the countries that pretty much share our basic values, namely the NATO countries. We're already pretty much part in the NATO anyways, we let NATO troops and aircraft practice and train in Sweden, and we're working with them in afghanistan and other places.

And, much closer cooperation in all areas with our scandinavian brethren; never again shall we stand idly by as our nieghbors are invaded by germans, or fighting against soviets. No, finns aren't really scandinavian and germanic but we like 'em anyways, we share a lot of history and they're nice. And yes, it was kinda fun to just be neutral and sell stuff to the nazis during WWII, and not getting invaded and lebensraumed. Fortunately, this is just words and there'll probably not be any such situation any time soon.

And our friends over the baltic sea, balticum. Like those guys too, especially estland. gotta work with them too. keep the ruskies away.

Charges dropped against Swedish commander in chief

In an interview our överbefälhavare, commander in chief, told a reporter that in the case of an invasion only a smaller part of Sweden could be defended, presumably the area around Stockholm, and that this for only a week at most. Because of publicly announcing that Sweden is up for grabbing by virtually anybody some thought that he should be charged with compromising the security of the realm.

But that's not really what's important here; A small part of Sweden, and for a week at most. And they call it a defence?!?! what the hell is this, how can we've allowed our security to be so faulty and weak? Luckily though, our defence minister has said that they've got plans to spend much more on defense, uppgrade our military, and make sure that the whole of sweden can be properly defended. Also, I think there's much pro-NATO feelings around lately so we might join sometime, hopefully. And, I think there might be some support to reintroduce conscription, also good. it's a must for small countries.

I didn't realize they weren't part of it.

I'd say no. NATO gets its associated countries in a lot of messes these days.

I see it as, we help the americans with whatever they're doing, killin' moslems it seems, and in return they help us out with any potential threat. I mean, would the americans really care about us if we insisted on not cooperating with them, not allying, and being strictly neutral? Maybe in smaller things, but if russia did something the US doesn't have an obligation nor will to care. or? Besides, combat experience is good eh? And we can sell lots of weapons to the NATO, but being a member is probably not a requirement.

And I'd also see the NATO stronger, by us joining, because they work against the chinese and russians, and I like that.

deeply unpopular in finland, not going to happen.

And frankly, im not entirely sure i would want it either, id just rather get along with the ruskies. They cant afford to go to war with us so why create problem when there is none.

I'll put it this way. I definitely understand your wariness toward the Chinese and Russians. The good news is that both China and Russia seem more focused on economic imperialism rather than military imperialism.

I think that can be dealt with using trade policies rather than military might.

That being said, NATO seems a bit redundant given the fact that we have the UN. Even though the UN can seem rather impotent at times, all of the NATO countries still contribute to UN peacekeeping forces.

Ideally, America would reduce its involvement while our allies would increase theirs, which would include Sweden, but I'm not sure if that requires more NATO involvement.

    Now why is that?

And you no hate ruskies? What about the wars, the subjegation, the communists? And the russians aren't able to take finland? A lack of motivation or reason for it currently yes, but if they wanted to they could do it easily. and take sweden along just because. russians aren't a paper tiger, and if they were they would be several million paper tigers.

true, and I'd rather prefer that kind of imperialism actually. But would we lose anything by joining? I just see it that it's better to join because you never know when you might need it, and the costs are rather low compared.

There's really no threat to you from Russia, is there? Don't start making up threats. That's reserved for OUR right wing.

You don't want to do that Swedish Guy... and lick that hand that feeds you?? Why??

Association and alliance comes with strings. The U.S. is committed to destroying sovreignty - everybody's sovreignty. Defend yourselves for Christ's sake!! Are you so limp wristed that you can't allocate some resources to building up a reasonable defense??

If you can't defend yourselves, you'll eventually be answering to a monster supragovernmental organization - for the life of me, I'll never understand people who don't think in terms of providing for and protecting themselves.

The U.S. is the enemy of all freedom loving people - you'd serve yourself and posterity well by not getting entangled with the U.S.

Um... I think Sweden has more to worry from the EU than us.

We've never had Sweden in our crosshairs, nor would them joining NATO have any real effect on that.

Everyone is in the U.S.'s crosshairs - the goal of our leadership is to deliver everyone bound and gagged at the doorstep of the UN. As David Rockefeller so famously bragged before a Senate committee, "... we will have world government whether you like it or not". We're getting much closer now with everyone's debt running amok, and fiscal/economic collapse a real possibility in the near future.

That said, I agree... the EU is a God-awful mess and a tremendous threat to everyone over there; but they are steered by the same banking forces that have the same goals as the U.S.

It's the central bankers and elites that sit on all those mountains of cash and the power that comes with it who direct EU and US policy. This is nothing new, and shouldn't think either controversial or earth shattering news.

Sweden is a pimple... beef up their own defenses, take care of themselves, and avoid giving any leverage to anyone control their destiny.

Most people in finland dont want trouble with the russians. The finnish border is one of the few borders where russia doesnt have problems so im fairly sure they want to keep it that way considering the challenges russia is facing.

Assuming this was a serious question, I'll venture a serious answer.

First understand about the last threat you should worry about today is a Russian invasion. They don't have the conventional forces to battle west, they don't need your ports, and they several bigger fish to fry before they got that far down the list.

Second, nobody particularly wants you, ( no offense intended .) Your climate makes conventional occupation difficult at best, you are not particularly strategically placed, you have no rare resources that someone needs, and any invader would have to assume a hostile population. Just not worth the bother.

As far as NATO is concerned, there are some significant advantages to membership, mostly in technology transfer. As an inter operative force, NATO standards bring a lot of communication, surveillance, and high tech computing to the table. You would stand to gain a lot of US funded research and military technology for free. Of course you would be expected to chip in on all NATO adventures but you would at least have a vote in what they would be. And in an increasingly nuclear world, you do get the US nuclear shield which may be handy in the not too distant future if current events proceed unchecked.

There's really no threat from anybody, but does that mean we shouldn't have any armed forces at all? The geopolitical stability of the world can change quickly, or so I've heard. No reason not to be prepared just in case no?

I don't really share that view of the US to be honest. As I've said, I believe we have much in common with the US and share the basic values. Thus a stronger US means more of our values projected unto the world.

Indeed, the EU is a threat to our sovereignity. NATO isn't the same, as it's just an alliance; it deals with military and foreign policy matters. They wont shove lots of bureaucratic unneccesary rules and regulations concerning everything down our throats.

No, we're kinda cool with the US i hope. The brits had us in their crosshairs during WWII, because of us supplying the germans, so maybe the americans thought of it too. But other than that, we share our values and should cooperate.

I know you don't share that view - you haven't studied the question, you have an opinion based on scant and flawed information.

The people themselves may share some values, but the leadership of Amerika is most decidedly anti-American, and anti-freedom. The average Amerikan is incredibly ignorant about the principles of freedom, and what their government has actually been up to, and what the goals of the elites who direct foreign policy, and the central bankers who control and direct fiscal policy are.

Amerika's debt has not been ramped up so precipitously for no reason; Amerika doesn't constantly stoke the coals of international conflict and war for no reason; Amerikan misleadership has not gutted our Bill of Rights for no reason; on and on...

Serious and disasterous change is afoot, and freedom is not on the agenda.

It's amazing to me that Europeans can never learn the lesson. Every 100 years or so you can't help but start the shooting, rape your neighbors wife, and drown all the priests. The fact that Amerikans have been made stupid by decades of progressive indoctrination only serves to catch them up to you guys... the writing is on the wall, but none of you can read it.

When I was a kid, I used to believe America was a good country, and wondered how the people of Germany could allow someone like an Adolf Hitler to rise to power; but as I grew older, wiser, and much more learned I came to see how the population is played. They are so willing to believe the lie. It's been an amazing process to watch play out here in Amerika as I became aware of what was happened some 30 years ago.

As was said of P.T. Barnum, "... Barnum's great discovery was not how easy it was to deceive the public, but rather, how much the public enjoyed being deceived."

Absolutely not. Your passion for domination is more then relevant throughout history.

If you join NATO it will be a matter of weeks until you appoint a King and attack Russia again.

War mongers, the lot of you.

It might help balance HATO with some rational thinking.

How does HATO work? Votes? US dictate?

(HATO are the Russian transliteral letters for NATO).

Although at the same time, joining HATO would make it difficult for Sweden to stay out of every war.

Sweden is like a poor version of the Nazis. They need to be opposed at every level when it comes to granting them power at the international level.

Well no. It's unneeded. NATO only worked in a cold war scenario. That's pretty much gone ...well unless Russia feels threatened by another country joining. Understand that most of what the U.S. does abroad usually pisses-off others. With the U.S. as the leader, so-to-speak, of NATO, it will look like the U.S. is pulling something. If you want security between Sweden and Russia, engage in more in trade and commerce. That's an insurance policy right there. Basically no country is going to attack another as long as commerce is going on. The internet and global economy has countries so tied to each other that it becomes suicidal economically to start up agitation with a country that does business with your country. The world is much safer with China moving left and engaging in socialist-capitalism.

You just hang on. We're moving to a one world government. Don't think so? I can prove it with historical events. Also, a OWG would keep Islam in check. Actually it would keep religion from spreading ...religion which is the most dangerous threat to world stability. Remove religion and most confrontations would be ended. A fact.
