i was reading the transatlantic trends 2012 report. it's incredible the level of obama's popularity in europe.
the 70% of europeans approve obama's handling of international affairs but only the 18% of them approve bush's handling.
if the europeans had been able to participate to us vote in 2012 only in spain and poland Romney would have exceeded the 10%.

    why?

Because europeans are dumb conformist morons who understand nothing about politics and will say anything that they think is trendy?

European leaders condemned the reported U.S. hacking of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s mobile phone and said they will seek trans-Atlantic accords on espionage practices.
Merkel and French President Francois Hollande spearheaded calls for closer cooperation among secret services, trying to move past the dismay provoked by this week’s revelations of U.S. eavesdropping in Germany and France.
“A rule of good conduct is that you don’t bug the portable phones of people you meet regularly at international summits,” Hollande told reporters early today after the first session of a meeting of European Union leaders in Brussels.
At the same time, EU leaders joined the Obama administration in pursuing damage control, rejecting calls from some European politicians for a suspension of trans-Atlantic trade talks that have export-oriented Germany as a prime backer.
Anger among the U.S. allies in Europe was stoked this week by reports in Spiegel magazine that Merkel was a National Security Agency target and in Le Monde that U.S. spies intercepted and recorded 70.3 million pieces of “telecommunications data” in France from Dec. 10, 2012, to Jan. 8, 2013. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...les-with-u-s-after-merkel-hacking-charge.html

For the same reason so many people loved Blair. Image is more important than politics. We live in the cult of celebrity.

Because he is interested in us. His secret service NSA - or another one - watched for example with a satellite my dead aunt washing trousers. He knows everything about her and Donald and about every other trouser washing European. A good man. He's solving the mysteries of the world.

That's an open secret - everyone knows this. What no one understands is why it works.

i don't love blair's ideas, but honestly he has been the most important left politician in europe in the last 20 years. he, the new labur and the "third way" tranformed and inspired the leftist parties in western europe.

Not after Edward Snowdon, whatever you believe the NSA should do I am sure we all agree it has damaged trust for America, particularly in Germany.

You know something is very wrong when your leader has nearly double to approval rating abroad then in his own country.

I know the Iraninians love Obama. They should fear him!

I think, US-Presidents from the Democrats are generally more popular in Europe than from the Republicans. I have read an article which said that the Democrats are similar to the conservative party here in Germany, the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) while the Republicans, if they were a German party, would count as extreme right.

It stays the fact though, that Bush started wars while Obama did not.

Chart 32: War is Sometimes Necessary to Obtain Justice - US: 74% approval, EU: 34%

I doubt so, it's not exactly new that the US secret services don't care for international or foreign laws. It's more that the German people are angry about Merkels cell-phone because it clearly shows that the NSA doesn't take Germany for serious and (correctly) assumes there won't be any consequences if it's found out.
