In Canada

1. Stimulus: the conservative government had stimulus programs too.
2. Chrysler and GM bailout: Conservatives in Canada had to bail them out too.
3. Obamacare: Canada has universal healthcare which is very supportive by the Conservatives.

So these "extreme" liberal policies aren't extreme nor exactly that or only liberal.

 

I think healthcare costs will level off and ultimately go down..

I've been in polls myself. Even so, they are more scientific than you seem to know. People who spend money to reach people use polls to develop marketing strategies. Now, you may have not been associated with any poll or know anyone who has, but that does not mean they are not being administered.

I knew a man who was deeply into politics, and more than a few important decisions are made via polling data. (It's not fake.) The most accurate polling organizations tend to fall reliably within their margins of error.

Other than that, there are more than enough resources readily available to you on the net, to locate and read about how polls are taken and why they DO work.

 

24% is not "roughly half of the people". Johnny-C and Iolo may seem insane to you but they were joking mostly. The insanity from the right is real and that is really frightening.

Clinton was in a whole 'nother ball park. Clinton wasn't a rigid ideologue who was trying to balance out the world standings by elevating the 3rd world and bringing America down. Clinton wasn't for socialism on a global scale. He didn't have animosity towards white people. Clinton worked with the other side, and accomplished quite a few great things.

Clinton may have been a debauched sleazebag, and he tried to be as liberal as Obama in the beginning, but he learned from his mistakes. Obama never will.

That is your opinion. My opinion is that he has not been liberal enough. He should have pushed harder for Single Payer. He should not agreed to the sequester numbers because I knew that The GOP's word was worth nothing. He should not have give up the Bush tax cuts in 2011 before any negotiating. He continues to give in to the extremes' threats.

You should look at the practicalities. My wife used to do it, between taking the kids to school and lunchtime, and have to cover certain classes of people, upper-class males being the least likely; if you weren't there, hard luck. Nowadays they do it by phone, in equally awkward ways. It is al a matter of statistical availability.

 

But you also know that we in the U S have a government system that can be control by extreme minorities. Sanity has disappeared in the last 30 years here.

 

I feel sorry for you. Polls are indicators. They are far better than any individual poll. They are far better than someone's life experiences. They do not rule me but I do use them to form my own opinion. I also use facts to form my opinion. I cannot figure out what you use to form your opinions.

Is this a joke? I get that the Right by and large hasn't paid any attention to what his policies are actually doing, but here is a (very) short list of examples:

-He wants to introduce financial incentives to all types of education, making the current attack on education by big business easier for the latter (and I'm not even talking about other stupid right-wing ideas like turning every public school into a charter school and online classes to cut costs)
-He is unabashedly pro-Wall Street and makes his political appointments accordingly, and he has not prosecuted one of the many (guilty) criminals of 2008, unlike Bush or Reagan under both of whom financial execs went to jail
-Pro agribusiness and GMO and uses police power to crush dissent against it
-Pro drones and pro massive police state, proudly continuing an American tradition started by the Right
-When push comes to shove, if the stupid GOPer's get their way and the American people are forced to accept some kind of rotten "Grand Bargain" ("Grand Betrayal" is a better name), Obama is definitely going to cut large parts of Social Security and Medicare (or "reform" them, excuse me). Maybe he won't do something so stupid and recklessly right-wing like privatize SS completely, but then again he doesn't have to worry about being reelected. And of course, even then you guys will still complain that he's a Kenyan Muslim Marxist.

 

They dont think hes conservative because they think republicans are centre right when in fact they are taking a hard right approach.

 

Sorry, yes, we do have a system that can be controlled by the minority. The Senate can be controlled by needing a 60 vote to move forward. The House is controlled by minorities who can threaten leadership and threaten other members by primary opponents. Even the Single Payer system in your country costs politicians their seats. It does take courageous people to care more about the country than their self interests. But our leaders in Congress are chosen by seniority more than by courage.

Seriously, your extremists are a small minority. Our extremists are a bigger minority.
