I have seen some epsiodes. Some of them are funny. But here is what got Phil in trouble. We know the Duck family folks are religious and God fearing Christians. As an atheist I respect that every ep ends with the family at dinner praying, that is cool. The show does not hide the religion, but at same it really isn't in your face either.

Now as Atheist who supports the side of the spectrum, I have an idea of what a religious bigot is, and the statements Phil made in GQ pretty much hit the talking points of a bigot. He slammed homosexuality, blacks and that if you
don't make right by his interpretation of purity you are going to hell.

The sad thing is Duck Dynasty shows Christians in a positive light, but much of the image is tarnished when one of those good Christians goes bad like Phil did in his article.

Christians shouldn't be demanding for Phil to return to the show, but calling on him. to apologize and ask forgiveness as he did for when he accepting Jesus for dying on the cross.

Is there a transcript of what he said?

I too support a ban on free speech. Hitler is on my fantasy football team (he's my WR, does a lot better than Dwayne Bowe, let me tell ya.)

He is a product of where he is from. Just like many other people. His thoughts on things will be very predictable. He's an old white trash (his words) redneck from butt fark Louisiana. Facts A&E is well aware of. What did A&E think his opinion on gays was?

They are certainly free to let him go, but it seems to me they knew what they were getting. I would keep him on the let the ratings decide. At the end of the day who really cares what he thinks about anything?

Are your thoughts so special they couldnt be posted on one of the other 12 threads about the same topic?

He already explained he doesnt hate anyone just because he doesn't agree with their lifestyle. What would you have us do... stone him to death?

So let me see if I get this straight. Duck man is a born again Christian who hates gays, but also feels blacks should go back to the days when they had few rights and were treated as second class citizens. Yes, that sounds just like a born again, but fake Christian to me who uses religion, God, and Jesus as an excuse to bash people of a different sexual and racial orientation. They aren't actually Christians at all. They are the "fake hypocrite want to be Christians", who use religion as a means to create whatever they see fit in their minds as right and convenient in their lives. And so long as it fits into their agenda and beliefs, they use and lean on Christianity to carry it out. Talk about a bunch of religious cowards who can't deal with reality.

You're right! He actually never was capable of thinking to start with. He understands nothing but his small world. He and his ignorant self centered bigoted kind, will die like the wind eventually.

It will take longer in West Monroe, Louisiana. My better half's dad is from around there and he's a homophobic, racist, xenophobic, backward, stuck in the 1950's deep south, too. It is what it is. And at the end of day what difference does it really make? The world moves forward whether they like it or not.

The focus has been on his comments about gays....since it's supposedly easier for the Right to paint that kind of bigotry as "religious freedom"

but don't leave out his "fond memories" of growing up in Jim Crow Louisiana and how blacks were "happy".

I don't think he should be fired. . but his employer has the right to fire someone who is so much in the public eyes and is not representing what his employer wants to represent. . .so, this self-proclaimed white trash has the right to free speech (as does LivingnDIxie, by the way, even if you object to her comment), but the right to free speech is NOT DEVOID of CONSEQUENCES that results from one's stupid, bigoted remarks.

You're right, of course! And on the "happy, optimistic" side of the same subject. . . New Mexico Supreme Court just legalized gay marriage!

If some overzealous statist used the law to go after the guy, I would defend him, since it would truly be a free speech issue. But it's not, it's a case of him saying something that got the hyper-sensitive crowd in a twist along with the people who run the show not wanting bad pr. He has money coming out of his eyeballs anyway, he should tell A&E to (*)(*)(*)(*) off, because they need his company more than he needs them.

On a side note reality tv is a drain on humanity anyway. 99% of these shows just highlight the length that people will go to whore themselves out for their fifteen minutes of fame.

Blacks were happy back then. What a ridiculous bunch of slime talk that is by Robertson. If they didn't pretend to be happy, they'd find themselves with a couple concrete blocks tied around their necks sinking at the bottom of an alligator infested swamp, never to be seen or heard from again. Who is Robertson trying to fool?

Yes my thoughts were special enough for a seperate thread because this is the opinion forum and I was giving an opinion. I didn't post a link to a story so it wasn't appropriate for the current events forum. Lastly how many Obamacare threads do we need, wouldn't one suffice?

The point I was making was that the reason thar A&E canned him was because what he said personifies a bigot.

This is isn't about freedom of speech, or racism or homophobia, only Phil knows what he believes. But what is in the article gives the perception of bigotery and perceptions matter.

Considering the popularity of the show, I doubt they wanted to do this.

Here's the thing, I know many fundamentalist Christians who for the most part deplore homosexuality as a sin. But they don't: a. tell gays they are going to hell, b. liken it to bestiality or adultery or c. talk about homosexuality as if it were only about anal sex. Duck man did all three and that is the problem. It isn't something most people would do in a public forum. My guess is that he will be back and he may even apologize. We will just have to see if people want to support such talk.

If you're not smart enough to google it, you're not smart enough to comprehend it yourself. Much less understand my own comprehension.

saying homosexuality is a sin from his fundamental beliefs in the scripture and saying he doesn't understand how a man can be attracted to another man is bigotry?

Or saying from his own personal experience from working in the fields beside blacks he didn't recall them being unhappy and contributed their happens to being godly is racist?
    can you explain

you are purposely distorting and reading much more into his statements that actually exist to justify your faux outrage and to further your false narrative

Did you purposely ignore the "bestiality" remark?

But as I said before, stupidity is a good excuse for making such ridiculous and idiotic comments! At least this guy realizes that he is White trash.

I'm not shocked by the gay stuff Phil said...I'm shocked about him saying "I never saw any blacks mistreated before the CRA" I mean if it's true, that's one thing, but I'm doubtful.

I think the guy seems like an anti social homophobic chauvanist bible thumper

another prime example of hypocrisy it is wrong to say something disrespectful about gays, but it is perfectly fine to say something disrespectful about fundamentalist Christians

I didn't say something disrespectful about fundamentalist Christians

I said something disrespectful about Phil Robinson.

I only hate fundemntalist Christians if they try to tell gays how to live.

Furthermore, I wish the south would have won the civil war.
