Well, I'll just bet this makes the California residents feel all warm, fuzzy, and safe. NOT. I don't know who is more at fault here: the liberal judge OR the doctors who pronounced him cured. Sorry....but sexual offenders never get "cured." I say, rent him a home next to either the doctors....or better still, the Judge. Let them worry about their kids; their wives and daughters. No doubt....this guy WILL do it again.

"A judge on Friday ordered that a serial rapist be released to live in a Los Angeles County community in spite of a host of vocal protests.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Gilbert Brown issued a brief order saying that Christopher Evans Hubbart, 63, must be released by July 7, Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement. With several severe restrictions that include 24-hour GPS monitoring, Hubbart will be allowed to rent a small house in a remote area in Lake Los Angeles, near the city of Palmdale.

The decision comes two days after a daylong hearing in Northern California, where Brown heard passionate objections from residents, many of whom drove 350 miles north from Southern California. Hubbart's most recent crimes occurred in Santa Clara County, but Brown ordered him released to Los Angeles County, where Hubbart was born and raised.

"I am extremely disappointed with the court's decision," said Lacey, who spent months fighting the release into her county of man with a history of at least 40 rapes.

"Now we are preparing for his arrival," she said. "We will do everything within our authority to protect the residents of Los Angeles County from this dangerous predator."

Hubbart will wear a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week GPS monitor on his ankle and will be accompanied by security people every time he goes out in public for the first six months to a year of his release, Lacey said. He will be transported to therapy sessions twice a week.

Brown said he received an enormous outpouring of emails, petitions, cards, letters and postings on a website set up by Lacey for public comment. The documents filled two banker boxes as well as two full binders, he said.

"The court has reviewed them all," Brown said, offering no other comment.

"The court approves the proposed address. Mr. Hubbart is ordered to be placed within 45 days," he said in his written order.

Hubbart has acknowledged raping and assaulting about 40 women between 1971 and 1982, when he was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He was paroled in 1990, but arrested in a new attack just two months later and returned to prison until 1996.

When his term ended, he was deemed a sexually violent predator and confined to a state mental hospital. Doctors at the hospital recently concluded he was fit for release, but few options were available. California laws bar sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools and other places where children congregate, eliminating nearly all urban areas in the state.

Local leaders quickly denounced the decision.

County Supervisor Michael Antonovich called it "an unconscionable threat to public safety."

Palmdale Mayor James Ledford said he was "a little upset" on learning the news.

"It's very disappointing, very disappointing that this guy with this kind of record in the past would be put into any community," he said.

Ledford said the city is going to continue to try to fight the order."

So your argument is rape should mean life without parole?

Because someone with only one rape is a good guy and unlikely to do it again?

This guy raped 40 women, not just one as in your fantasy example.

The only time he doesn't rape women is when he's locked up.

I don't think society owes this criminal anything.

He had assaulted and raped around 40 women. He shouldn't be sent out the revolving doors of the pen anymore than a pedophile should....

Damn the law and those sentences. Clearly we should just ignore our laws and lock up whoever we see fit for life if not just kill them. Honestly, not on this guys side, but yeah.

his time was up, you can't punish someone twice for the same crime.... while I think he should of got a life sentence, that is not what happened, now he goes on a list, doesn't the "list" make you feel safe, there are millions on the list... don't look it up cause you would not believe how many live around you when looking at the list, I know I was, I never looked at it again...

I agree with them, it should, but that is not what he got, and we can't punish someone and then when they are done doing their time say... ya know what, lets punish you again for that same crime, that would be called double jeopardy

the people to be angry with is the ones that invented "the list" and the original judge that did not give him a life sentence (and the da if he gave him a plea deal)

and of course the drug war.. cause lord knows if we kept all these rapists in prison for life we would have no place to put the dangerous guy watching south park while getting high

Arab countries won't house and feed people like this for the rest of their life, why should we?

you want us to be more like them?

while I do not think we should be killers, maybe we should assist them in killing themselves if they want to go that route .... give them a cyanide pill or something if they request it, suicide watch for people like this has always been a weird idea to me

then again... would death not be the easy way out for a man like this?

    How stupid :roflol:

As always, the law in your state and mine allow rapists to not go life without parole. Your try to turn this into some anti california democrat ploy. How cute :hippie:

In Arab countries 40 female rape victims would have been stoned to death for enticing the man to rape them.

    The judge is liberal?

I did some research, meaning, I used Google, and I was unable to find any party affiliation or political stances by this judge that would indicate political philosophy.

Did you misread the post? He raped 40 women. And have you ever been raped? The affects it has on victims is like murder, but they are still alive and living with the constant fear. I can't speak for all women (and men), but it's one of my greatest fears. Do you know a child? Would you want this mentally defective person walking the streets in your neighborhood where innocent children are playing? Some people are too sick to be a part of society. I think the best solution is to keep him confined to a mental institution, where he can be a part of a community that will monitor what he does. This will protect him and the community.

Did you miss the part where the doctors at the mental institute said he was safe for release?

Saw it just fine......and they will be on the top of the list to sue once this guy commits his next offense. Because we all know doctors never make mistakes.

The only positive thing to come is that when he does, it's strike 3 and we won't have to have this debate again. Unfortunately, some innocent will be attacked

Did you miss the part where the rapist will be extensively monitored, both by electronic ankle bracelets and by officers of the court and other escorts?

He doesn't sound all that "safe" to me. Indeed, serial rapists are psychologically damaged individuals that may always be a threat to society.

So, we should believe them because they are doctors? Addicts and people that struggle with disorders such as this are also master manipulators and liars -- it's not their fault; it's what they do to survive in their disease. There is a big possibility that he knew exactly what he needed to say and do in order to be placed in good standing with his medical team. There is no cure for sex addiction, just like there is no cure for alcoholism or drug addiction. I think it's great that he'll be under close surveillance for the first year, but what about after that year? Rape is a heinous crime. FORTY RAPES. How is that okay? And the addiction only progresses. What if he progresses so far with his next rape that he actually kills the victim? Is that what it's going to take?

Yes, I've looked at the list before. It IS scary. This guy is a "serial" rapist....raping at least 40 women. There is NO cure for it. We are soft on such crimes.....

Do you understand what parole is? If the rapist did his full time then he is free to go, no strings attached. He wouldn't need treatment and he wouldn't need a GPS monitor. Parole means he signed a contract with the state that he could be released early if he adhered to certain conditions.

How can liberals talk about a conservative war on women when they are turning rapists loose to rape again?

For a "serial" rapist: YES. 40 women were raped by him....and that's just the ones they KNOW about. How would you feel if it were your wife, girlfriend, mother or daughter??? Sometimes people need to put this into a more personal scenario to really have a feeling for it.

BTW, the guy was let our earlier for parole....and he raped while on parole. He should have lost ALL chances at that point in time.

Really? So how do you explain the California laws against sexual predation are so much tougher than when he committed the crimes?
