Speaking of alarmists, I remember the American Auto Industry warned that the requirement to put seat belts in cars would be the end of their industry. The same fear mongering occurred with air bags, Catalytic Converters and when MPG standards were established.

There are many variables which impact our climate, to deny human activity is one of them is ridiculous. For every economic disadvantage there will be economic advantages in protecting our water, air and soil.

[• 1962, when General Motors testified before the New York state legislature against a regulation requiring the installation of seat-belt moorings (not even seat belts), arguing that people were better off being thrown from their cars (notwithstanding their own 1930's studies which had confirmed the value of seatbelts).
    • 1966, when Henry Ford II, speaking out against federal safety standards requiring laminated windscreens for cars, warned "If we can't meet them when they are published, we'll have to close down."
    • 1971, when Chrysler's Lee Iacocca told Richard Nixon in a secretly recorded tape, "And you can see that safety has really killed all of our business.... We're not only frustrated, but, uh, we've reached the despair point....Shoulder harnesses and headrests are a complete waste of money."
    • 1972, a General Motors executive, testifying against proposed emissions standards, said,"It is conceivable that complete stoppage of the entire production could occur, with the obvious tremendous loss to company shareholders, employees, suppliers and communities."
    • 2002, when California, in a barely concealed attempt to impose stricter fuel economy requirements, proposed to start regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and a Washington, D.C., area ad paid for by the industry's primary lobbying entity, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (AAM), went so far as to assert that tighter fuel economy regulations would hurt food production. "Farming is tough enough with healthy-size pickups," a fellow who looks like a farmer is pictured saying. "Imagine hauling feed barrels in a subcompact."
    • 2011, when the AAM warns that the proposed 62-mpg CAFE standard could cut car sales by 25 percent, costing the industry 220,000 jobs.]

How to get a 97% consensus, start with a sample. Start throwing out data that doesn't agree until you get to 97%. Its a fairly simple and straight forward method.

No its the opposite of a conspiracy theory. There is no conspiracy needed. Its simple human nature. There are plenty of foot soldiers her who jump at the chance to attack anyone who falls out of line. And no you dont get to chose truth. There is either a culture or there is not. Your choice doesn't change a thing. You are that special no matter what your mother told you.

Southern farmers with vested interests vs. climatologists, who also potentially have vested interests but aren't nearly as straightforward.... you don't honestly think that's apples to apples do you?

Lots of funding out there for someone to show hard data that contradicts the theory, lots of it. Hard pill to swallow that the pendulum only swings in one direction.

Hypocrisy is a symptom of being human. I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't display it in some way or other. A diagnosis of narcissism is of low clinical value. It certainly shows up often enough in online arguments, though.

I didn't say simply hypocrisy. I said great hypocrisy.

I did notice the added dig and chose to ignore it but since you've decided to repeat it -- there is no greater or lesser hypocrisy, there is simply hypocrisy. We attach conditions like 'great' based upon a desire to add drama or sense of importance and scale. It's really only a psychological trick and often a cheap one at that. It can annoy people, though, which is something I take great delight in occasionally.

He's a very smart cookie. Knows his stuff. Some say a narcissist. Others say a hypocrite. Some have suggested he's pre-programmed. Many claim he's a liberal. Women adore him.

So it is your claim the report was not acted on in anyway from 2003 to 2008?

Great can mean elaborate, marked by enthusiasm and eminent. Hypocrisy is a behavior which can be done elaborately, enthusiastically, or flagrantly. It therefore seems quite reasonable to describe a particular act of hypocrisy as a great hypocrisy.
