If we were able to reduce our prison populations by 16%- simply by not arresting people for marijuana issues? Hell by any other measure that would be a rip roaring success story- we have major prison overcrowding- a 16% reduction would be huge.

That of course is simply one of many reasons why our Prohibition against Marijuana is irrational.

Only fiscally irresponsible people want to repeat the historical mistake of Prohibition, and claim they are not really like that afterward.

Why does the right only want to reduce social spending on the least wealty under our form of Capitalism.

I employ on a casual basis a very good worker who has a psychological disorder and a childhood of very poor parenting and guidance which seems to have rendered him a victim of the judicial system. I can't say that non of his circumstances are not his fault, but the legal system doesn't make it very easy for him to be employable or support himself. There seem to be legal procedures that would make it virtually impossible for him to hold down any form of continuous employment and are designed to keep lawyers employed in good earning jobs with little consideration for the convicted, even though I know in this case he is trying to get free from the clutches of the system and finding it very difficult.

I find him a very good, hard working (sometimes too hard) and willing assistant, even though I like to leave him working on his own for to long, as I fear he would somehow start to have problems. But I know what he can do and he works well under my guidance and I pay and treat him pretty well, I think.

The legal system sometimes makes it difficult for me to manage and for him to earn a living. I guess this might, and this is a big might, be another advantage of the legalization of drugs, as it would reduce the cost of the criminal population. Drugs were once one of his problems although now he is totally against that particular addiction.

Some on the right don't consider Prohibiton a form of prohibitory regulations when decrying the sad state of regulatory "costs" in the US.

Not everyone is so incredibly selfish or ignorant. Not only should freedom not be based on whether or not you're interested in that particular act, but you're not taking into account the damage it does to society by making it illegal. Our prisons are crowded with harmless drug offenders while harmful criminals get shorter sentences because of a lack of room in the system. Billions of tax dollars are wasted rounding up and prosecuting harmless drug users. Lives are ruined because of these stupid laws and people are forever tarnished as a criminal because of a harmless offense. And that all impacts society as a whole. It also supports the Mexican drug cartels, as well as violent drug rings in the US (not that everyone selling is violent, but it encourages it when it's illegal). It's also not taxed. Making it illegal doesn't stop anyone from doing it - it just stops the country from benefiting from the tax money; it ruins lives; and it supports murderous organizations.

Thanks for providing zero research to back up your claim. I've never used it and I support legalization. I know others who feel the same.

Sounds like projection to me. See above. Also, it's a huge help for some and not exactly that harmful. What about alcohol? Should that be banned as well?

lol, and this is just the insane icing on the crazy cake.

Whenever support for legalizing something goes up, that obviously means more people are doing it.

And it's obvious that people who don't smoke weed are marginalized by society, because they get called trolls or get their comments deleted, while comments from stoners go untouched.

I understand your POV. I am not a stoner and have not touched the wonder refer since I was 18 or so. I was in the Army for 23 years and retired from it. I live in Colorado and voted for rec. use of MJ and here is my reasoning.

Kids/Adults going to jail for having a joint. I thought it rather hypocritical that government allows adults to partake in alcohol consumption and all the problems that go with it. I am also a hypocrite as with the hard drugs I am totally against.

Maybe I am in the wrong with my views but to me it is a liberty issue.

Maybe, like anything moderation and being responsible is the key. On a side note I sure enjoy my Italian made 410 bore guns. Things of beauty.

I support legalizing marijuana. I think it's less harmful than alcohol, the strain on our prisons and justice system is not worth it, and it's one less thing for the cartels to make money on. The resources used to deal with pot could be diverted to controlling the problems of hard drugs.

I don't smoke pot. Or cigarettes, Or anything else. I rarely drink and only in moderation. I don't partake of any drugs other than Advil, Tylenol, aspirin, etc.

Apparently there is a direct correlation between abstaining from marijuana and the tendency to get butthurt. Cry me a river. I get high on sissy tears.

Why do you think that your not wanting to use should mean others, who have different desires, should be forced at gunpoint to live your way?

Certainly not. I support a person's right to use, or not use, as they see fit and desire. As for "stoners like me", I own my own small business, have many friends that I love dearly, and am pretty happy in life. And I don't think I'm important enough to tell you what you can and cannot do, provided you're not harming anyone aside from yourself.

All I'm saying is that you'll have a hard time finding anyone who doesn't smoke weed that would be okay with you doing it.

Based on what? Your own feelings? You're one person. That is a meaningless observation. People on this very thread have told you they don't smoke, nor would they if it was legal, and you had the balls to call them liars. I do not do heroin, nor do I want to, but that doesn't give me the right to tell you that you can't.

You completely missed the point. I am a free human being. As are you. You have no right to demand that I abstain from substances that you don't like. Likewise, I have no right to demand the same of you. I have no authority over you. You have no authority over me. And my point in bringing up heroin is to discredit your original thesis that only pot smokers what pot legal. I am not a heroin user, nor do I want to be, but I do think it should be legal.

Potheads are the only ones stoned enough to think marijuana legalization would be a good thing. Ask anyone you know who doesn't smoke if it should be legal and I guarantee you they'll say they're against it.

If you don't smoke pot, why the hell would you care?

Oh wait, you moral crusaders get off on telling other people what too do.

Your personal guarantee is quaint but I'd rather have links providing evidence for this claim. I have never smoked pot and I support legalization. Too many practical problems with a war on pot users.

I'm not trying to tell anybody what to do. All I'm doing is pointing out a fallacy of the legalization issue that is sorely overlooked, and that happens to be the type of people who advocate it.
