Every Institution and every professor MUST be neutral, in such settings where there isn't a definitive answer. Otherwise, Philosophy in its broadest sense is impossible. I'll even argue that every definitive answer came from neutral settings. Newton's Law was only found because Newton had the privilege to explore possibilities.

You're right that a student cannot set the curriculum, but neither can the teacher place a dogma on Curriculum which she did here. She violated her trust as a teacher and if I were a student in that class, reading this story I'd leave too.

I agree completely. When I was in PUBLIC high school, I raised my hand and said "I just want to say that I hate (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s." I was suspended for a week. I should have sued.

Translation: I really don't know much about the constitution but I sure am confident that a liberal is somehow to blame for everything.

I support SSM but if some teacher had the audacity to tell me to drop their class because of my political beliefs, I'd be one ticked off student. However, I wouldn't be a liberal and sue the teacher. I'd just drop the class so I wouldn't have to hear that extremist teacher's forced-opinions.

For the Progressives it serves them well. Pose as a Conservative post utter trash then use it as quote material of what "Conservatives" think. It only fools the new posters but it does fool some.

Maybe the kid should just get one of those T-shirts that say "I support gay marriage..."
but on the back read "as long as both the chicks are hot"

A school teacher in my country wouldn't get away with something like that. Any kid is better off being home-schooled anyway and going to after school activities like basketball and soccer to make friends. The Internet and CD-ROM software can raise a kid and he or she can do so at home without teachers with a grudge or an agenda holding them back.

I took classes for years as a police officer. It was "suggested" more than once by instructors that I not take a class. Since I wasn't on a degree program and grades were important I never followed their advice.

    you funny guy

there is no "intolerance of intolerance" which is the newest leftist meme.

It's a leftist wanting to silence dissent.

    The supreme court disagrees. Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919)

Your posts have really degenerated lately. You can't use sarcasm to avoid hearing the other side forever, sooner or later you have to let reality into your life.

The same court (and justice) that upheld a state law permitting eugenics only 8 years later.

Then the institution is not setting their curriculum. They are setting an ideological agenda and set a fee of $50,000 a year for the "privilege" of being indoctrinated. No thank you...

I don't know where this teacher works, but where I taught, he or she would have lost their job in a NY min.
There are exceptions to the freedom of speech. You have identified one of them, another is slander. The US Supreme Court has ruled that speech that interferes with a students right to learn can be forbidden. Another example, I was a representative for my school in the local chapter of the NEA. We were not allowed to say the word " strike " at a Representative Assembly. My county was one of the most liberal in the country!

"Should haves" never occur, do they? But, if you want to play "should have" games, you probably should have been expelled altogether.

Dude, conservatives know it's bad news reporting. It's just that bad bullets are still bullets.

Any student who disagreed with gay marriage....should have just told him so....and also told him this, "If you force me to drop your class or seek retribution against me in class for my own personal beliefs, then I'll sue you."

This is America; you can't do that.....anymore than a professor could tell a homosexual to drop his class because he doesn't believe with the lifestyle. They need to just "teach" and stay out of their student's lifestyles or beliefs.....because neither has a thing to do with that teacher.
