Dangerous distortions about cops shooting black men: Oft-cited figure based on questionable math By John R. Lott Jr. December 2, 2014 Exaggerations have poisoned discussions about relations between blacks and the police. Black men between the ages of 15 and 19 are 21 times as likely as whites to be killed by a police officer, said Chuck Todd on Sundays Meet the Press. Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree echoed Todd. The data is clear, that black boys are being killed by white police officers around the country. The claim was repeated frequently on other shows. But those numbers arent entirely accurate, and they are far from the whole truth. . . . Todd and Ogletree relied on an analysis of FBI data by ProPublica and Slate. Slates headline read, Black Teens Vastly More Likely to Be Killed by Police Than Whites Even After Adjusting for Crime Rates. If their claim is right if police do unjustly shoot blacks at vastly higher rates it is a serious indictment of the police. But, fortunately, these allegations are false. One allegation is that 15-to-19-year-old black males die at the hands of the police 21 times as often as do white males of the same age. Another claim is that blacks commit violent crimes no more than two to three times as often as whites do. By combining these two claims, some journalists conclude that police still kill young blacks at least seven to 10.5 times as often as they kill young whites. But the original 21-fold claim is based on worse than unreliable data. . . . It's a proven fact that among blacks, teenage crime is much more prevalent. This is based on the most recent available FBI crime numbers, black male teenagers were nine times more likely to commit murder than were their white counterparts. Thats right, nine times, and the gap in these urban areas is undoubtedly even larger. IMHO, the whole subject is dominated by a biased LSM, and the race hustlers that have in the end twisted and made the aims of MLK Jr, a mockery of what he was attempting to accomplish. My accusation goes to an indictment of Barack Obama, his co-conspirator Eric Holder and Al Sharpton who has perpetrated death, lied, committed perjury and evades paying his taxes.

After adjusting for murder rates, black male teenagers are still killed by the police 2.3 times as often as whites. This is a considerable difference — but again, over-representation of urban areas in the data set could be a big part of the explanation. Screaming “racism!” may attract a TV audience. Move to the country or mountains. Stop living in cities. Sooner or later the statisticians and lawyers will eat themselves......along with most politicians.
I moved out of Flushing, NY 14 years ago for that very reason. I now a live in the boonies. I visit my interracial grandchildren frequently in the city and they love coming up to GPa's country house to play in the woods.
Exactly true. I have no problem with going to big cities (they're usually pretty fantastic for a few weeks stay), but who wants to live in one. Give me a few hundred acres of land in a warm climate and I'll be content.
My income comes from many cities.....live in the shadows of Pikes Peak. The farming and chickens are a chore but damn the air is crisp.
Wow - breathtaking. I have a holiday house near here: Upstate it's a little more like this:

We should count ourselves lucky to not be living here:
Grandmother loaned it to me before the great earthquake of San Francisco during the 1906 rebellion between importers and exporters. Nothing to do with gold and Chinese labor or the type 56 SKS. Good eye
What's this give me? Aren't you prepared to work, save and then buy. That's what I did. BTW, when you g to the city be careful where you go, stay in the main thoroughfares.
No doubt I am far ahead most my age in savings. I'm working to put myself through university and get a deposit on a house (mostly because I don't have time to save $500,000 for the median house price round here).

Our family has had a 350 acre property for over 100 years, but we recently sold off all but a dozen acres (terrible move by my family, but whatever). Ergo, my life goal is to own at least 1000 acres of land in a warm area with low taxes (and strong civil liberties), while earning passive income through investments and freelance work. Very long term, but we can all dream.
hmm, just a few hundred acres, in warm clime? at $3000 per acre (pretty cheap) that's $600,000. I'll take that, too. and invest it and retire on it
Finding somewhere with good civil liberties and low taxes is hard enough - for some reason these locations are almost always unacceptably cold. What's with that :'(
you can keep the land, just give me the 600k. the BLM has 1 MILLION square miles out west and you can "lease" all the rights of an owner, on 20 acres, for $120 per year. $6 per acre per year. You'll pay a lot more taxes than that on land that you "own" in many states. get one up north (or in the mountains) for summer and down south for the winter. You can't build on it, but you can have a trailer or camper, garden on it, hunt and fish on it, have small livestock, etc.
So Cobber you were born with a silver spoon up your spout. I worked hard most of my life and saved to buy the property I now have. Therefore, we don't hang in the same circles.
yep, 1000 acres is 3 MILLION $, NOW, and if you're just now in college, by the time you have 3 million, the 1000 acres will cost 3-4x that much. It's a pointless waste of your time and money. You'll have to pay tons of money just to insure yourself against lawsuits, etc. filed by trespassers and thieves, no less. Govt will have increased property taxes a lot by then, if private land is even still ALLOWED. That's not a dream, man. that's an outright hallucination.
If that's the way you want to see it, so be it. We are not rich at all - we just have a family home. We sold the 300 acres for $180,000. Is that so bad?
Yes, $600 an acre was a steal for anyone that bought the property. I own 60 wooded acres with an eleven year old 1800 sq. ft., 2 car garage home, My asking price is $325,000.
He had Alzheimers and wanted to buy a car ASAP. We strongly advised him against unilaterally selling off our family home for pennies, but there wasn't much we could do.
I love my hunting and fishing, seems hunting is getting to much for me but a day of fishing on the pond is still a great day.
The notion that cops are out to kill blacks is ludicrous and anyone who actually believes that is either insane or very limited in their knowledge of reality.
