a man from my local forum had been there a couple of years ago and brought some photos of NK - as you see, life is ok out there; the guy also says it has no problems with food, which is of high quality and natural.
LMAO...That hotel was never finished, which is emblematic of the crap state that the country is in. Maybe compared to the Russian economic and political morass, NK looks good to you, but to the rest of the world, it looks like a (*)(*)(*)(*)hole run by a lunatic.
Ehm, Here to have a public working finish you have almost to wait 10 time the normal waiting time. That's it because of corrupt politicians and mafia that manage all the tenders.
i been abroad and seen stuff, ditto the man who went to NK and made those pics, as well as other Russian tourists who travelled the world, so they can compare places. blinkered much? West media stalwart fanboys?
Doesn't look too terrible but still not a place I'd like to live. Did anyone ever see the VICE video with a travel episode in North Korea?
what one must understand about North Korea is that when it comes to outsiders the government sends officials to take care of them and make sure that they only see the most properous and economically sound parts of the country. therefore the person who took these pictures with most likely escorted to capital areas in North Korea and kept from the poverty ridden rural areas in order for Kim Jong ill and his administration, or lack thereof, under the image that they attempt to provide to the world. it has also become very evident that the people of North Korea have been indoctrinated to believe that Kim Jong ill is a great and all powerful leader and through years of constant brainwashing the lines have been blurred between their interpretation of both fear and loyalty. the simple facts prove that North Korea is indeed in a state of total dystopia, as if people do not understand the lack of free will that they have because of Kim Jong Il's despotic policies and strict punishments. North Korea is no longer a communist society but instead a nation of people under a Stalin like leader without an administration to question him.
notice how CNN portrays NK - http://edition.cnn.com/2016/01/20/arts/gallery/north-korean-3d/index.html - done in a style as if there's no life there but only some weird goings on.
They have store stores they keep fully stocked with merchandise but it's just for show, they will not let you actually purchase anything if you try. All of this has been fully documented and the witness accounts fro hundreds that have escaped tell of the brutality there.
It's actually on the top of places I'd most like to visit. It looks nice from those pictures, but the lack of people in pyongyang is rather telling. I see more people milling about the street in an American cow town. I also remember how people cried when the great leader (kim jung soon?) died. There are serious mental problems when people get that bent out of shape just because a politician dies, but I guess the English did it when princess Diana died.
that does not cancel the fact NK has no lack in domestically produced food. documented by whom? West media hacks who no better than their NK counterparts, huh? Russian immigrants in the 1990s posed as having 'escaped' however later they turned out to be Russian Mafia; though they did not lie about the escape, only failed to specify it was a jailbreak actually.
I'd be interested to know how he got permission to enter. I know they have one flight that goes from china to nk, but I'm sure there's got to be more to it than that. And I don't know what homeland security would think of seeing a passport stamped by north korea immigration department.
So, why are Russians shilling for NK now? Maybe it's an attempt to look better by comparison? But the fact that people are fleeing Russia and NK and that nobody has the slightest desire to emigrate to Russia or NK shows you what a miserable place those countries really are. And since Russian and NK media are government propaganda outlets and spout nothing but lies and disinformation, you will always get a better picture of the reality from other sources who don't have to fear for their lives if they say anything unflattering about what really goes on.

North Korea is great! I remember watching this documentary and at some point the guy asked if he could go to the Christian church and pray, North Korea being tolerant of religion and all. His tour guides (let's just call them what they are, handlers) told him the church was closed (this was a sunday) and so he couldn't go there. The documentary guy continued to insist on praying, and would you know it an hour later the North Koreans built up a fake church, got some locals to recite some songs in Hangul which the handlers refused to translate, and when he asked for the priest his handlers told him that the priest was on vacation! Yeah great place, the tours totally aren't propaganda. You know this because of the way they'll delete pictures off your camera if they don't like them and how you are shuffled from place to place that looks oddly pristine. Educate yourself, don't fall for their bull(*)(*)(*)(*). I'd start with the words of North Korean defectors, or just watch the Vice Travel Guide tour.
Watch any of the documentaries. The Vice Travel Guide was was the best. I also recommend their tour of Liberia. As the the defectors why would you not listen to them? It's not like we can listen to the average North Korea since they are kept separate from the rest of the world. It does not take much of a look at the reality of the situation to realize the North Korea is not well off, that the people are controlled, and that the Kim dynasty has (*)(*)(*)(*) ed them all over.
why do that while you can go there and see for yourself? to hell with guides; personal experience first, otherwise you have no right to voice your opinion as to what you've never seen.
I'm an American, I cannot go there without being arrested and jailed as a spy. I was right on the border for a year at the JSA. It's strange how the North is just barren from what you can see and that village with the spray painted windows and electricity that no one lives in is weird too. I thought the red October music and "stab the yankee" propaganda they had blaring was kind of funny too. I have no idea why you think North Korea is somehow well off, nor do I see why you refuse to look at a documentary that goes through the same style guided tour you would go through if you went to North Korea. It's fascinating to see people blind themselves with ignorance to keep up some crazy notion that doesn't match the facts that law out in the open.
Being tall helps, but it's not a requirement. The Koreans are the ones visibly guarding on the border so they probably have a height requirement, but US side it didn't seem to matter. Tour guides tended to be tall. Dunno, never really asked. I'm 6' 3" so most people are shorter than me anyways, and so I never really pay attention to height other than when someone is taller.
because i don't trust documentaries, their propaganda all over. facts are only what you can witness personally, not something brought by the media. .
