http://www.reuters.com/article/us-swiss-vote-idUSKCN0YR0CW?il=0 It seems the Swiss are growing out of their nanny state mentality; either that or they don't want to attract more immigrants. Imagine what a guarantee of $2500/month would do for the immigration problem in Switzerland. It would be like flies on a dead carcass.
I support universal basic income, but by all reports, this was a poor proposal-- short on details and with no concern for how the Swiss government would fund the initiative. Perhaps it is for the best that they did not pass it at this time. I still have high hopes for the experiments in Finland.
I have been in Switzerland on numerous occasions. More perfect country you cant find. Rich and healthy, clean and they hold their muslims on the leash. Compared to Sweden which for some reason is self destructive. Once great country.
And who would pay? You guys have already soaked the rich and you all have just about destroyed the middle class. Maybe it's time the bottom half start paying their way.
The greatest period of growth and prosperity in this nation is when the top marginal tax rates were more than double what they are today. Don't give me that "already soaked the rich" bull(*)(*)(*)(*); we've destroyed the middle class because we're giving all of their tax money to the rich, not because of the token efforts we're making to help the poor. The universal basic income would be paid for out of income taxes, just like everything else the government pays for. The income tax would start at the first dollar of earned income, and if tax increases need to occur to fully fund it, that is wholly acceptable; the economic benefits for everyone, including the people paying the higher tax rates, will thoroughly justify it.
