Pie could contain infected needles, broken glass, poison, acid, drugs and could be treated as weapon - so dude was in his right just to shoot the assaulter, not just to kick his ass.

    "Activist".

Running around shoving pies in people's faces and getting your ass kicked makes a person an "activist"?

    Hilarious...

Self-defense is fine..... What does anyone think will happen when they throw a pie in someones face with nefarious intent? they're going to get their ass kicked.....

I believe this is a trick question.
By definition, excessive force is never appropriate.

I tend to agree with you, however I am simply pointing out that according to the law when anyone goes beyond a "reasonable defense", it becomes it's own assault. I speak from the voice of experience from my rather impetuous youth. The mayor should have been arrested too.

Fine charge him but no jury will find a person guilty for beating the crap out of someone that shoved a pie in their face with nefarious intent..

Perhaps throwing pies in peoples faces isn't a good idea?

Look only friends can throw pies in your face without getting beaten up.....
