I see a lot of left vs. right arguing about Trump on here, but I don't see this acknowledged much around here. So yeah, Donald Trump is a socialist. _______________________________________________ Here is a quote: The free market has been sorting it out and Americas been losing, Mr. Pence added, as Mr. Trump interjected, Every time, every time. What do you call a guy who thinks the free market has been failing "every time" and is extremely willing to intervene on behalf of workers? _____________________________________________________ Trump went on 60 minutes and told the interviewer: Scott, we need fair trade. Not free trade, What do you call someone who inserts fairness into economics and differentiates between free trade and fair trade (implying free trade is not fair)? _________________________________________________________ Trump's chief strategist appears to believe the New Deal was not enough: Like [Andrew] Jacksons populism, were going to build an entirely new political movement, he says. Its everything related to jobs. The conservatives are going to go crazy. Im the guy pushing a trillion-dollar infrastructure plan. With negative interest rates throughout the world, its the greatest opportunity to rebuild everything. Ship yards, iron works, get them all jacked up. Were just going to throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks. It will be as exciting as the 1930s, greater than the Reagan revolution conservatives, plus populists, in an economic nationalist movement. So Trump strongly prefers redistribution to workers over free markets and free trade. He believes in government stimulus spending and a progressive role in the government for managing the economy. He's a socialist. I wonder if those on the left might find themselves doubting the sort of economic populism that has been a key component of their platforms, and if those on the right are ready to embrace the term of "socialist".
The trick is to never call him a socialist imho. That way the public won't be against his economic policy proposals for no good reason.
Yeah, he has supported open socialist like HRC for he political career that would give him more leverage for his business. Socialist love making socialism for the people, but never the socialist.
He has repeatedly said that the free market has failed. He has repeatedly said free trade is not fair. He has repeatedly stated that he (and only he) must intervene through the government on behalf of workers. He derides globalism and insists on huge tariffs. He supports massive government spending on infrastructure programs. He has promoted cargo cults around steel and coal. He's like a Castro/Chavez greatest hits played on repeat.
