Yea, I think the Nunes thing was a manufactured distraction, because he never really said anything. Adam Schiff on the other hand, did.

My theory is that perhaps Republicans know the hammer is close to falling, so they wanted the committee to be discredited so there would be calls for a special select committee and special prosecutor to investigate, all of which can take months and even years. This way they'd buy themselves time to get Gorsuch through, pass their tax cuts for the billionaires, further deregulations, etc before all hell breaks lose.

For the sake of argument lets say Russia did have damaging evidence on Hillary Clinton. And they did time it to do maximum damage. How does that abdicate Hillary's responsibility that their was damaging evidence in the first place? Because Russia released the information does it somehow make the information less relevant? The article insinuates that Trump coordinated with Russia to release the information, and maybe he did, but it is ultimately Hillary's fault their was something to be found in the first place. It was written by a former British intelligence officer who PERSONALLY handed it over to our intelligence officers. Our intelligence agencies werent peddling frivolous fake documents to the president and president elect, they took it serious. And that made it totally newsworthy.

Second, CNN did not detail the allegations in the full dossier and reported that that the claims were unverified. Buzzfeed printed the dossier.

The damage was that the Russians released the emails drip by drip for maximum effectiveness, and republicans could always cherry pick one or two out of the thousands and spin them into something way worse than they were.

And the media harped on it for a full year, following the right wing talking points and making it sound like a scandal every day all day even though there was nothing of any real substance in the them.

And please stop with Hillary was a bad candidate. Hillary was probably the most qualified person to ever be on the ticket, and compared to any other politician she is way more honest. Manafort was hired 11 years ago to promote Russian interests, including explicitly in the US to the tune of 10 million per year. Manafort admits it as his goal in a 2005 memo. This deal was coordinated via Putin's #1 business ally. He volunteered to work for Trump. They delivered to Putin by changing the republican platform at the convention. And the circumstantial evidence is looking pretty pervasive. It is becoming clear at least some of Trump's team is guilty. Trump himself? Maybe we'll see. He definitely acts guilty. The drip drip continues. Either way, Trump seems to now realize Manafort is trouble, and so Spicer has been downplaying the fact that Manafort led the campaign for months.
