I'm pretty sure it's a construct, like the 4th of July; the day the colonists became dependent on DC instead of London.

    Hmm, interesting.

The Anglo-American Trinity currently is this:

    America: The Military Arm

    London: The financial Arm

    Rome: The Spiritual Arm

This is how the world works.

There is only one reason for the season. It was created by the church and has been celebrated since. Oddly enough, it's atheists who seem to complain the most, like they were left out. They really weren't. They refused of their own accord. Now, they want to silence the real reason for Christmas. The pendulum will swing back.

Yeah, I've heard that before. It seems plausible on its face, but don't you think it's a bit too simplistic?

That is how it's been for decades. There are emerging powers and the times they are 'achangin'. Not up for writing a book about it. Certainly, it is simple, but expand upon it, one needs just to research.

Don't let this be the end all.

Either Constantine or his mom Helene adapted it from the Roman Saturnalia celebration.

Saturnalia played little role actually. Most of the customs are taken from the Winter Solstice. Gift giving is really the only thing Saturnalia and Christmas have in common.

Silly. America has never looked to Rome for spiritual leadership. It has always been predominantly Protestant, and most of America's political leaders have come from the mainline denominations, Episcopalian in particular. The financial aspect is also incorrect, in that New York has been the financial center of the universe since at least 1900. One could argue that has been shifting more toward Hong Kong or Shanghai lately, but hasn't fully occurred yet.

I thought I posted something on this? Must have been another thread. What does the date matter? If you adopted a child and did not know his/her birthday, would you simple pic a day or allow the child to suffer without having a celebration? Now, what if that child grew up to offer salvation for your eternal soul by being the spotless perfect lamb, able to avoid suffering and tortuous death, but allowing it to happen out of love of His creation? How much more would you want to celebrate and pick a day for that? The date doesn't matter all that much. It's more important to praise Him for deciding to lower Himself to our level. That's a long way down, too.

Xmas is a Roman Empire heathen celebration adapted to Christianity by a Roman emperor OR by his mom.

    End of story.

Xmas may well be, but Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth, the Son of God, the Emmanuel. It's a wonderful time to praise and worship.

Of course, each of us can worship or not as we please. Neither of us has a right to tell the other how to celebrate or not.

I always attend Xmas Mass and Easter Thursday Blessed Sacrament Mass.

But I don't kid myself that Jesus was born on or around December.

Spring or summer is more likely.

Shepherds were abiding their flocks by night in the fields. They would have frozen their azzes off if it was December in Judea/Israel.

Why do you care when it was? I don't think I've said December 25 was the correct date. Did you know the Julian calendar was a mess and the Gregorian is better but not accurate? Christmas does exist. It is celebrated as the day the Emmanuel, the Son of God was born. There should be another holiday for secularists and hedonists. Businesses would be so happy to take your money. It could be called Festivus...for the rest of us.

I am a fact oriented person and when it comes to history, philosophy, science and/or religion I like to get the facts straight.

We are not talking about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Faerie, or your Faerie Godmother.

My faerie godmother can kick your faerie godmother's butt. How do you like them apples?

Nothing wrong with wanting to get the facts straight. See what you can discover. The message isn't in the date, but in the sacrifice of our God.

You are starting to sound Protestant.

Jesus is our Lord (if you are Catholic).

    Jesus' Father is our God.

    FYI.

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are One. Do you believe this? Jesus is God.

No, education requires reading. If you don't want to read, that's okay, but I'm not repeating myself again and again. Simply read and you will know.
