The vast majority of teachers are not armed. An appreciable increase in arming them will result in kids dying in accidents. That's not conjecture, that's a fact. Having a CC license does not make you trained to deal with a threat, give you superpowers, or the ability to react in a situation like our last NRA sponsored event in Florida.

Protective instinct of the teachers cannot be correlated to acting with precision and accuracy with a firearm in an active shooter situation. It's asinine to think that because these teachers instinctively protect their kids they would make great trained policemen. We had a cop sit outside and do nothing in this latest NRA sponsored event. He was paralyzed by fear. What idiocy has to be present to think a teacher with a fraction of his training or experience would react more effectively. The good guy with a gun is a ridiculous paranoid fantasy of the NRA loving shills who romanticize firearms.

No. But, they do need to be properly screen, qualified and trained. This shouldn't be that for you to understand.

It is painfully obvious that "progressives" shamelessly used the students who witnessed the killing as props in a political propaganda campaign. Colton Haab, the heroic ROTC student, stands by his claim that CNN gave him a scripted question and identifies Fake Jake Flapper-Tapper's producer, one Carrie Stevenson, as the person in question. CNN continues to deny this and claims that Haab wanted to use his time to give a speech and was refused. All things considered, I tend to believe Haab since, after all, "this is CNN" and they are well-known liars.

I'm not interested in discussing "how is it any worse." I'm interested in how we can do better. Asking teachers to be armed guards is ridiculous and the result of paranoid fantasies based on inadequacies NRA shills have.

When did I say anything remotely close to that BS, I said the guy failed to do his job. It just amazes me when I hear folks attack people when it comes to killing someone or shooting someone. Until you have taken a life or seriously injured someone you don't know what you would do.

    Yes, there was.

In Florida it's called the Baker Act, and has been there since the 1970's, not to mention him threatening others at least twice with firearms, and putting a gun to someone's head.

There was MORE than enough to get him flagged in NICS.

Keep defending incompetent government and demanding they take your freedom away because of it though.

Thanks you for an excellent post.

I am a Professor who teaches classes up to 250 students. I did not sign up to protect these students with my life in case of an active shooting situation, and I can't. I have to think about protecting my family first. Should I get killed trying to protect a student sitting in the last row I don't even know the name of and have never talked to and then put my family's well being in jeopardy? It is not in the job description.

The truth is, I have absolutely no clue how I would react in a mass shooting situation. I would hope I could rise to the occasion, but looking at statistics, it is more likely that the first reaction would be to hide, just like the vast majority of everyone else.

Of course, if I would fail to protect my students, the usual gun nut keyboard warrior types would call me a coward.

The point is that people should not even have to think about such issues, if guns of war were kept from easy distribution. I hold the gun nuts and the NRA directly responsible for making everyone else's lives miserable. Because the insanity won't stop in schools. Next, they'll arm Universities, movie theaters, grocery stores, restaurants etc., with metal detectors everywhere. Where does the insanity stop?

I don't care what Colton Haab says.

It is very obvious from the detailed reporting that Haab wanted to use an invitation to appear on TV as a platform to read some sort of manifesto he wrote. They don't go for that sort of thing on cable TV, on any network or any subject.

You keep saying the CNN are "proven liars", even though I can only think of one or two times they have gotten a story wrong.

Trump attacks CNN because it is middle of the road. He'd be laughed at if he attacked MSNBC, and he's piss off his base if he attacked the fawning adoration he gets from Fox.

And you parrot his attacks because you let him to you thinking for you.

You want to debate honestly and intelligently can your BS accusing people of defending incompetent governments and that partisan political crap.

The sherif of the town said that the police did not have a basis for taking the guy in or taking away his weapons. Until I see documentation that proves the sherif wrong Ibwill gonwith what the sherif said.

Of course not. You don't care about anything other than advancing your political agenda over the body of dead students.
To share his thoughts and insights, exactly what the staged managed propaganda is pretending to be showing us. Do you think we have not noticed how the flat denials are changing into justifications for the very censorship CNN first lied about?

I have yet to hear anybody propose that all teachers are armed or teachers are armed even if they are not willing.
The guy was a 30 year cop. I am guessing when they screened and hired him, they figured somebody who was a trained professional for 30 years would act as he was trained and experienced.

So then not fighting back is the best course of action in one of these situations? Isn't that pretty much what we have today and with pretty poor outcome? I'm not an NRA member but I'm not a dumbass either and I can recognize an anti gun crusader even without the sign hanging around their necks. We have unarmed teachers and faculty today and your argument is giving piss poor results.

If one of these shooters comes into your classroom and starts shooting, how do you propose to protect yourself? Just you, to hell with the students who aren't your responsibility, what if he's shooting at you? If you had a gun would you return fire?

A lot of us hope the insanity stops now.

There is officer training that is top notch, and there is "officer training" that leaves them no more prepared than you or I for an active shooter situation. Not that untrained people do not step up and engage, they do, like they lawful gun owner at the Texas Church shooting, but, without good effective training, you really don't know how a person is going to respond in this type of situation.

Read this , It is clarification of BakervAct criteria. I have to believe that the sherif' department would have acted if he fit this criteria.

Yes because he's trying to cover his ass.

Meanwhile, in the real world, there is a mile long list of reasons, and putting guns to people's heads is only one of those things, as well as being the only reason necessary.

But we can be assured a teacher will get the good training. Very very very unlikely

Yes, active shooter training is far more advanced than it was 30 years ago.

Is there documentation that he put guns to people's head's?

His do you know that all the sherif was doing was trying to cover his ass ? That can be your opinion but unless we see proof itbis just your opinion which may be correct bug may be wrong. Do you have all of the police reports with the responding officer's notes when they responded to house of that kid ?

    All 39 police reports? No.

Even CNN knows this guy should never have been allowed to buy a weapon.

I get your perpetual slamming of CNN BUT I will ignore that nonsense.

I just read the Baker act but do not see anything that says the police can just take away his weapons.

Actually, its' the ACLU that wants insane people to get guns. They are blocking most of the mental illness related restrictions on guns.

    I agree.

We can't trust law enforcement to save our President. We need to have everyone bring a gun to Trump's rallies.
