That's what I said. The UN was founded on the principle that peaceful measures are the A to Z of its creation. It is not meant to be a big stick unless it is voted by the members to be the last resort. Now if you break it down by real-time incidents you can see what countries have violated those principles.

No, you are wrong. The UN had made great progress with Sadam Hussein .... without armed force. That is what the UN was created for: Peace by peaceful means. The US broke the law by invading Irak against the UN and its members. Had the US respected the law, and the UN, Irak would have comes to terms with itself without and invasion and the death of a million innocent men, women, and children.

I don't know what great progress the UN made with Saddam. He refused to comply with any of the resolutions including 1441 which was supposed to be his last chance. Even then the UNSC would not resort to enforcement b/c Russia and France had rearmed Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war and they wanted him to stay in power so they could get paid back in oil contracts. That is the kind of thing that makes the SC virtually useless.

Saddam complied with the UN insistence that he destroys his weapons. He did that. DONE. He complied with the UN inspection teams terms to inspect all 12 of the sights the US claimed he was caching WMD's. DONE. These things were accomplished by peaceful means orchestrated by the UN. The danger was over and the Iraki government was on its way to preparing for the next step in cleaning up the ruling class. Everything was going according to plan.

Resolution 1441 was necessary because Saddam had not complied with previous resolutions. This is clearly stated in 1441. He didn't comply with that one either.
