    2 things

    1. I cant read the article because I refuse to pay the wsj.
    2. Theyre wrong. This is about China dumping their excess steal on American markets, as well as china charging tariffs on American imports.

If China wants free trade, its gotta work both ways.

If China wants to charge us tariffs, their goods get tariffs

And if it goes further when China refuses to capitulate, then the American people will be compensated with higher wages and MORE JOBS.

It's just a number I grabbed out of the air. If the auto manufacturer ever has to buy foreign steel to build your car he will pay 25% more for it. Most of your car is made of steel. The 25% the manufacturer paid for the steel will be passed on to you. Economics 101.

If China refuses to capitulate, then jobs will be brought back to the US. This is really about China ending their OWN UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES.

Trump is a gd idiot living in a 1955 wet dream. Has he ever considered the law of unintended consequences? Has he ever read a book to learn what happened the last time we had a trade war. This guy thinks like two-bit real estate con man running a mom and pop business.

The moron knows less about global trade than he does about fornicating. Does he think (right) other nations will just roll over and play dead? Wait until Asia lays import tariffs on agricultural goods from the U.S.

Did he visualize what U.S. automakers or foreign makers located in the U.S. might do when their raw materials cost goes up? How about moving production to Mexico or Asia?

BTW, how’s dropping out of TPP workin for ya’?

Largely by way of a tax cut that will explode the national debt.

I've come to the conclusion that if a progressive likes the idea, you don't do it. If he hates, it, keep doing it.

I don't remember, it was on the MSN home page. Yes I think it may well have a positive effect here by creating jobs in the steel industry. Overnight? Probably not but we didn't lose it overnight either.

    From the article......

"Steel is just a tiny input in the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) — which is why it's so crazy. You mess up your entire trading system for an industry that has a total of 80,000 jobs," Posen argued. 2015 census data showed roughly 140,000 Americans employed in steel mills, contributing $36 billion to the national economy.

By comparison, steel-consuming industries, which experts believe will be hardest hit by the tariffs, employ 6.5 million Americans and add about $1 trillion to U.S. GDP, according to the census.

More ad homs don't make your case at ALL.

China has a choice, either capitulate and stop their OWN UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES, or face potential economic devastation from the world's largest economic power, the USA. It's up to China.

    • President Trump's plan to impose steep tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum may set off a global trade war.
    • What it won't do is much if any damage to China's steel industry.
    • Trump has railed against China in his trade rhetoric, but the Chinese steel industry is already insulated to U.S. trade action.

You should be ashamed of yourself. If you don't understand that Trump is in negotiation to end CHINA'S UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES, then you are stirring the pot to make negotiations more difficult for Trump.

The result will be dems losing more elections SINCE 2010 while at current levels of power not seen SINCE 1929.

Well have to wait and see. One step at a time pretty much the same strategy as gun control advocates. One step at a time.
