Every time a failing business dies a market opportunity is born.

I'll miss Toys-R-Us, good memories of going to that store 'back in the day.

    Apparently not too well.

Toys ‘R’ Us Says It Will Close or Sell All U.S. Stores

Toys “R” Us, the iconic retail chain that has sold toys and games to millions of children for generations, is closing shop in the United States.

After filing for bankruptcy protection in September and suffering through a brutal holiday shopping season, the company decided on Wednesday to close or sell all of its remaining stores, after executives met with creditors throughout the day, according to three people briefed on the discussions.:roflol:

antique. nevertheless, grownups devising ways to link children/children's toys and sexuality is almost as creepy as grownups dressing their six year old daughters up like strippers to entertain an auditorium full of pageant goers

I have a creepy admission. When I was a kid, if I were at a girl's home I'd sneak in and undress their Barbie's.

If they’ll pick the same toys regardless of the marketing then this seems like you’re bitching about nothing

They were already gone genius. You think they went out of business in less than a year after 30 something years? Thanks Obama! :roflol:

Their problems became clear back in 2005.

They've just been tumbling over one hurdle after another since then and finally the legs have given out.

Maybe we could raise our children to be secure enough in who they are so they won't have to use violence to portray some kind of image of "masculinity" in order to fit in?

I'm not quite sure your patronage is the be-all and end-all you seem to think it is.

The notion that people are tabala rasa is demonstrably false. Males and females are different. Gender roles are not arbitrary, they cater to these differences. Kids will not have a genderless toy choice in the absence of signs showing girls playing with dolls and boys with trucks.

I will however enjoy watching the train crash, so bring it on.

I don't agree. Gender roles don't exist because some social traditionalism. Society is built around the animal and it's instincts.

I don't think traditional gender roles are going anywhere. In fact I think there is much higher demand now than they ever have been.

    Good...they should die...today.

Women and men should be able to be able to be any (legal) 'role' they want to be.

Human society has always been in a state of change, and will continue to be so. Younger generations are usually the authors of change and this will also continue to be the case - whether people agree or disagree with change doesn't matter, change is inevitable. Just my opinion......

And yes, Toys-R-Us is going down......just to much debt from a leveraged takeover (thanks Mitt) and perhaps some missteps in business.....

Trump? Not according to this, from the article posted by @waltky

"Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, blamed the company's woes on poor leadership. "As the competitive dynamics of the toy market intensified, management failed to respond and evolve. As such, the brand lost relevance, customers and ultimately sales," Saunders said in a note Wednesday. "The main tragedy of liquidation will be the extensive loss of jobs. In our view, those on the shop-floor have been badly let down by management and those doing financial deals.""
