Prior to Monday’s raid, Mueller’s team had been aiming to finalize a report on its findings on whether the president has tried to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation in the coming months, as early as May or as late as July, three sources said. That timeline hinged in part on reaching a decision on a presidential interview, these people said. One person familiar with the investigation described a decision on an interview as one of the last steps Mueller was seeking to take before closing his investigation into obstruction.

Good... Mueller has probably interviewed the people he needs to get the job done... waiting for a Trump interview is counterproductive and a waste of time...

Note that Trumps delay in sitting down for the interview is one of the reasons this probe has gone on longer than it might have needed to... Good job, Trump!

Also note the the last part of the snip above... "closing his investigation into obstruction"... nothing on the other phases and targets of Mueller's probe....

But this is a good summary URL for the possible obstruction avenues for Mueller.. recommended reading..

Issue a subpoena and make him ignore it

He could "postpone" it indefinitely, until he is out of office.

Mueller can't force the president to do anything.

Trump should just ignore this clown.......the investigation is going so poorly that they are having to go back and revive the meaningless 'Access Hollywood' tape so CNN's Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon can giggle at hearing the word '*****' played over and over again on national 'news'........and to arouse the Dem base........how long before another vagina hat march?

I always thought that Mueller was just stringing Trump along with the "negotiations" over an interview. If Mueller wants to interview Trump it will be in front of a grand jury.

The anti-Trump Trump-hating alt-left are saddened by this bit of news.

What justice was obstructed by Trump? If he did it, like the left is constantly claiming, then why hasn't he been arrested and charged? If Mueller had Trump by the short hairs on obstruction then he wouldn't need to be going after porn queens and old video tapes from NBC.

Here's the problem for Trump. The fact that Mueller isn't forcing and interview likely means that he's planning criminal charges.

    Simple as that.

Really?? How so?? I think both sides should be happy this might lead to some faster Mueller results, one side so Trump will be cleared of any OOJ charges, the other because Mueller will make a valid case for multiple charges of OOJ (or somewhere in between)... I know I am...

I think this is good news for all sides, unless Trump has done something wrong and was counting on infinite delays...

If he had anything he would want Trump on record, under oath.

Mueller has nothing, and he knows it.

Because it's still sort of funny, even today.... Even gay people can laugh at *****

Personally, the primary thing that makes me laugh these days (other than any appearance by SHS during the daily whatever) is whenever anybody refers to the head of the National Enquirer - David Pecker - As the late-great Sean Spicer (sigh) used to say - 'You can't make this **** up'

Yawn, no one cares, he was planning criminal charges before the investigation even started, just like the FBI exonerated Hillary before they questioned her and 15 more witnesses.

Sorry dear, no ironclad proof of collusion with Russia = Trump was legitimately elected = the investigation based on lies and slander has zero credibility = Trump is president until 2020 unless he runs and wins in 2020.

Simple as that, no collusion, the putsch fails.

A President is not above the law. One who thinks he is needs to be disabused of that notion.

You must be repeating that to yourself in the mirror.

We'll see what happens. Trump may wind up being summoned before a Grand Jury, where he will not have his attorney present, or be able to dodge questions.

    Nobody claimed he was.

However the Supreme Court did rule on this and they said that he should be expected to testify, when its convenient to do so.

They put no other stipulations on the president.

Mueller is clearly desperate to avoid this. And Trump has the options of not showing up, challenging the subpoena in courts, all the way to the SCOTUS and claiming the 5th. Good luck.

Oh please, sweet Jesus, let Trump go to any interview and use the 5th amendment.... I don't ask for much.... My birthday is not too far off...

Remind you of a Trump quote...

“The mob takes the Fifth,” he said at an Iowa campaign rally in September. “If you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”

Oh please, let it happen that way...

LOL, like I said this is the absolute last resort and it will never get to that, it will play out in courts for the next 5 years or he just won't show up... but out of curiosity, say you get your birthday present, Trump pleads the fifth. Then what do you think will happen? Keep in mind, the republicans will continue supporting him, seeing Mueller's investigation as a witch hunt and inquisition, therefore the senate republicans will support him too, absolutely no evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors..... Guess what, until 2020 you are still screwed :D

I said a long time ago Trump should just tell Mueller to pound sand.

Unless Mueller can articulate the underlying crime he needs to question Trump about there is no need for Trump to cooperate in any way.

But, Trump could always pull the Hillary defense and claim "I don't recall" to every question Mueller asks.

Boy, you sure know how to screw up a birthday present...

I guess my "insurance policy" is the midterms, as a Democrat-led Congress won't be quite so subservient....

Trump should invite Mueller to the White House and answer his questions for a couple of hours.
Frankly, Mueller is not much of a threat.

No, he's not desperate to avoid this at all.

Anyone who has watched Trump's petulant adolescent behavior can readily see that this would be what the rigth wing apologists call a "perjury trap".

Trump is not a very smart man, and he is arrogant enough, and emotionally immature enough that he says the first thing that comes into his head most of the time. Then he typically doubles down and shrinks the box he put himself into.

He has a history of doing precisely that. He is a very poor witness, and a very poor client to any compent attorney.

Trump does not have the option of not showing up. He would be putting himself above the law at that point.
