"Since the 2010 election of Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin and Governor Mark Dayton in Minnesota, lawmakers in these two neighboring states have enacted vastly different policy agendas. Governor Walker and the Wisconsin state legislature have pursued a highly conservative agenda centered on cutting taxes, shrinking government, and weakening unions. In contrast, Minnesota under Governor Dayton has enacted a slate of progressive priorities: raising the minimum wage, strengthening safety net programs and labor standards, and boosting public investments in infrastructure and education, financed through higher taxes (largely on the wealthy).

"Because of the proximity and many similarities of these two states, comparing economic performance in the Badger State (WI) versus the Gopher State (MN) provides a compelling case study for assessing which agenda leads to better outcomes for working people and their families. Now, seven years removed from when each governor took office, there is ample data to assess which state’s economy—and by extension, which set of policies—delivered more for the welfare of its residents. The results could not be more clear....."

So much for the "value" of cutting taxes and programs. When do we learn?

Fascinating report with tons of data. There is enough similarity in these states to make this a case study. The difference is surprising and instructive.

    From the article:
    For total non-farm growth, 11% is 39 percent greater than Wisconsin's 7.9%.
Job growth in the overall private sector (12.5% vs. 9.7%) was 28.9% greater for Minnesota.

    Minnesota's 10th percentile wages were 36.5% better.
At the 12th percentile it was a whopping 51.5% better.

Obviously Minnesota's gains here were TWICE or 100% greater than those of Wisconsin.

The difference? 41.2% and 32.8% respectively.

Wisconsin's poverty was 9.2% less than Minnesota's according to those numbers.

    Good, but no numbers.

I should leave something for you to calculate yourself. :)

This pretty well shows that the Republican plan is as wrong and backward as we said it is, and it's destroying us. It is reducing the USA to Third World status. It's handing our leadership role to China.

Actually, both states are doing well. The biggest difference between the two is Wisconsin is full of hateful democrats trying to UNSUCCESSFULLY remove their republican governor year after year. And that takes a toll on their own economy. It's expectations of the future and higher uncertainty.

I'll make sure I don't buy a "My Pillow" from that idiot in MN. It's way over-priced anyway.

Apples and oranges much? The assumption that the only difference between these two states is there tax policy is laughably absurd. In fact, Minnesota has been a hub for the biomedical industry for decades and a major player in the steel industry before that, Wisconsin does dairy. In fact, the dramatic improvement in the lives of the average Wisconsinite is little short of Miraculous.

Wasn't WI the state where the communist (progressive) party of America took a foothold in America? And since the GOP took over, the state has actually started to be profitable again? Its kind of like taking credit for the capitalist economy while the capitalist are trying to build back up the state after devastating socialist and union policies of decades of failures. The left will berate the GOP for the failings of Detroit on day one if a republican mayor was elected there after 60 years of democrat degradation.

That's absolutely true. Co-ops began there around the late 1800s.

Wow, you can make up an answer to ANYTHING, including facts. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

So, this anecdote of WI coming out of socialist rule for decades and doing worse than MN who was more capitalist for decades is your proof that the leftist ideals are better? Not the fact that MN is now sub-average of state economies in the US WITH WI, or the fact that it is far worse than places like TX which has been a right idealist state for decade. Or the fact that further leftist countries are in ruins like Venezuela and Cuba?

Or just compare to another lake access democrat controlled economy, Illinois, but that would not fit the agenda.

It is. Government is handing it over to Russia and especially China. But growing problems are world wide and it's going to get worse. MUCH worse..... -before it gets better.

Go ahead and prove that Wisconsin’s economy would have been better if they had not cut taxes on the middle class, slashed government spending, and weakened unions

I love it when the right flounders! "Both are doing well. / MN doing better because it has had big industries for decades and WI is stuck with dairies. / MN is actually worse off than WI." LOL!!!!!!!!!

    You're beating yourself up!
